Cleaning Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cleaning in Ohio?
Most cleaning positions in Ohio do not require a state-issued license, so entry typically begins with a high school diploma or equivalent and on-the-job training. Employers in healthcare settings may require a background check and OSHA safety training before your first shift. Earning a Cleaning Industry Management Standard certification through ISSA can strengthen your candidacy for supervisory or commercial contract roles at larger Ohio facilities.
Which companies hire cleanings in Ohio?
Employers hiring cleanings in Ohio right now include Mark's Cleaning Service, Sheetz, and Environment Control, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's large hospital networks, university campuses, and convention facilities generate especially consistent openings throughout the year.
Which Ohio cities have the most cleaning jobs?
Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati have the most cleaning openings in Ohio. Columbus drives volume through its large corporate headquarters, university facilities, and expanding healthcare campuses, while Cleveland and Cincinnati add demand from their established hospital systems, hotel corridors, and manufacturing plants that rely on contracted janitorial services.
Are there remote cleaning jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Cleaning work is almost entirely on-site by nature, requiring physical presence at facilities. About 0% of cleaning openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to be in cleaning operations management or quality-control coordination roles rather than hands-on cleaning work.
How can I get hired as a cleaning in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to commercial cleaning contractors and facility management companies, which routinely hire and train candidates without prior experience. Large Ohio employers like ABM Industries and ServiceMaster Clean run onboarding programs for new hires. Starting as a general custodian or porter at a hospital, university, or hotel and cross-training into specialized floor care or sanitation builds a record that supports quick advancement.
