Cleaning Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cleaning in New York?
No state-issued license is required to work as a cleaner in New York, so most candidates enter directly through employer hiring. Large commercial cleaning contractors and building services companies typically provide on-the-job training for new hires. Completing an OSHA 10-hour general industry safety course strengthens your application, and prior experience in janitorial, hospitality housekeeping, or healthcare environmental services is the most reliable way to stand out in New York's competitive market.
Which companies hire cleanings in New York?
Employers hiring cleanings in New York right now include McDonald's, Troon, and Bullish, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense commercial real estate sector and large hospital networks mean cleaning contractors here tend to operate at significant scale, with many employers staffing hundreds of workers across multiple sites.
Which New York cities have the most cleaning jobs?
The cities with the most cleaning openings in New York are New York, Schenectady, and White Plains. New York City drives the majority of demand given its enormous concentration of office towers, hotels, hospitals, and residential high-rises, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady openings through healthcare campuses, government buildings, and educational institutions that anchor those local economies.
Are there remote cleaning jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Cleaning work is by nature hands-on and site-specific, so the vast majority of roles require a physical presence. About 0% of cleaning openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively administrative or supervisory roles, such as operations coordinators or account managers within cleaning service companies.
How can I get hired as a cleaning in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to large commercial cleaning contractors that hire and train new workers without prior experience. Companies operating in New York City's hospitality and healthcare sectors frequently bring on entry-level staff for housekeeping aide and porter roles. Earning an OSHA 10-hour general industry certificate before applying signals safety awareness and gives candidates an edge. Lateral moves from roles such as building porter, laundry aide, or hospital environmental services technician are common stepping stones.
Where can I find and apply to cleaning jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to cleaning jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings across commercial, residential, and healthcare settings. Find roles that fit your availability and experience, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
