Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Associate Head / Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time, 10-month reporting position with benefits. Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance and working under the license of the Kenyon College Team Physician, the position is responsible for assisting with providing prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to Kenyon College Division III intercollegiate male and female sports.
It is also expected that the Associate Head/Assistant Athletic Trainer embraces the department mission of fostering learning and developing community with a focus on the values of citizenship, competition, resiliency, sportsmanship, and teamwork within Kenyon’s unique campus culture. Position Summary:
The Associate Head / Assistant Athletic Trainer serves the Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation in the Division of Student Affairs. This position reports to the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance and works under the license of the Kenyon College Team Physician while supporting the mission of the College in its focus on student development, outcomes, and success. This is a ten (10) month reporting position that includes morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities with possible travel requirements.
Essential Functions:
- The Associate Head / Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with providing prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to all Kenyon College Division III intercollegiate male and female sports teams.
- Competency in computer skills (e.g. Google suite, word processing, Healthy Roster, SWAY, PyraMed, etc.).
- Travel with any sports teams as directed.
- Maintain appropriate communications with student athletes and parents/guardians.
- Work independently and maintain a schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain BOC Certification.
- Maintain Ohio Licensure.
- Maintain all Continuing Education Units required by organization(s).
- Title and possible additional assignments may be based on experience.
- Management of Sports Medicine work study students.
- Recruitment, review, hiring of candidates.
- Approve time sheets, training, and evaluations in accordance with institutional guidelines.
- Facilitate pre-participation physicals.
- Communication with athletes, practitioners, and coaches.
- Distribution of required paperwork and scheduling of actual exams.
- Provide educational resources for completion and understanding of physical process.
- Upkeep of Emergency Action Plans in accordance with NCAA recommendations.
Risk Management:
- Enforce and implement all weather policies during extreme weather conditions.
- Understand inclement weather strategies for halting contests and resuming contests due to unsafe weather (i.e.; lightening, tornado, extreme heat, extreme cold, unsafe field conditions).
- Know, update, and understand the written Emergency Action Plans with regards to training room operation and expectations of athletic trainers at the site of competition.
- Assist with Insurance Coordination with filling out appropriate claim forms with students.
- Assist Assistant AD for Sports Performance with appropriate Physician coverage at athletic events.
Other Expectations:
- Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness & Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing undergraduate students.
- Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
- Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives, and processes.
- Develop meaningful connections with students, staff, and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
- Assist with special projects and duties, as needed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation, and regulations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Department of Athletics’ student-athlete handbook, and the Student Affairs and College’s mission statements.

Working Conditions:
- Some heavy lifting/moving equipment is required.
- Early morning, day, late evenings, weekends, holidays, college breaks, and summers are required with the potential for additional travel for athletic contests and convention/caucus attendance.
- The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Qualified experience in the field of athletic training.
- Certification in First aid and CPR.
- NATA Certification.
- Eligibility for Ohio State Licensure.
This position is a full-time 10-month reporting appointment with flexibility to set work hours appropriate to the needs of the program.
