Client Service Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a client service associate in New York?
Most client service associate roles in New York's financial services sector require or lead to FINRA licensing, typically the Series 7 and Series 66, administered through FINRA and the New York State Department of Financial Services. Candidates start with a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field. Many firms will sponsor licensing exams after hire, so having a degree and passing background checks is often enough to enter the field and earn credentials on the job.
How much do client service associates make in New York?
Client service associates in New York earn a median of about $78,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,820 for the lowest 10% to over $125,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire client service associates in New York?
Employers hiring client service associates in New York right now include Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of major brokerages, private banks, and insurance carriers means demand for this role stays consistent throughout the year, particularly in and around Manhattan and Westchester County.
Which New York cities have the most client service associate jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Buffalo have the most client service associate openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of global financial institutions, asset managers, and insurance headquarters, while White Plains draws hiring from regional wealth management offices and Buffalo has a growing footprint of back-office and client operations for large national financial firms.
Are there remote client service associate jobs in New York?
Yes, though they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since many firms require licensed associates to work from supervised, compliant office environments. About 16% of client service associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements more prevalent than fully remote. Account servicing and administrative support functions are the parts of the role most likely to carry hybrid flexibility.
How can I get hired as a client service associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to associate or client support programs at large financial firms, many of which are designed for recent graduates without prior industry experience. Firms like Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley run structured associate onboarding programs at their New York locations that include paid FINRA licensing preparation. Lateral moves from bank teller, insurance customer service, or operations analyst roles are common, and holding a completed Series 7 exam even before employment gives candidates a measurable edge in a competitive applicant pool.
