Client Service Associate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a client service associate in California?
Most client service associate roles in California require a bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field, along with FINRA licensing. Firms typically sponsor candidates for the Series 7 and Series 63 exams, which are administered by FINRA and required for roles involving securities products. California does not add a separate state securities license beyond FINRA registration, but the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation oversees broker-dealer conduct, so familiarity with state suitability rules is an asset.
How much do client service associates make in California?
Client service associates in California earn a median of about $77,960 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $56,200 for the lowest 10% to over $125,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire client service associates in California?
Employers hiring client service associates in California right now include Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of wealth management offices, regional banks, and insurance carriers means openings appear consistently across both large national firms and independent registered investment advisors headquartered in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Which California cities have the most client service associate jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Palo Alto have the most client service associate openings in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco lead because of their dense concentrations of financial services headquarters, private banking offices, and wealth management firms, while San Diego supports a strong secondary market driven by its regional bank presence and growing fintech sector.
Are there remote client service associate jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles. About 13% of client service associate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based, phone-driven nature of much of the work. Back-office account administration and operational support functions are the most consistently offered in remote or hybrid arrangements, while roles requiring in-branch client interaction remain primarily on-site.
How can I get hired as a client service associate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a bank teller, personal banker, or financial services representative role at a California retail bank branch, which builds the compliance knowledge and client communication skills that wealth management firms look for. Large California employers like Wells Fargo and Bank of America run associate development programs that move candidates from branch operations into client service roles. Completing the Series 63 exam before applying, even without employer sponsorship, signals commitment and shortens the licensing timeline once hired.
Where can I find and apply to client service associate jobs in California?
You can find and apply to client service associate jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target location, and apply directly to each opening without any additional steps required on the platform.
