Clinical Assistant Professor Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical assistant professor in Alaska?
To become a clinical assistant professor in Alaska, you need a terminal clinical or academic degree, such as an MD, DNP, or PhD, along with an active Alaska professional license issued through the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing in your discipline. Most academic medical positions also expect active clinical practice. University of Alaska campuses and health system-affiliated programs typically require demonstrated teaching or precepting experience before appointment.
Which companies hire clinical assistant professors in Alaska?
Companies currently hiring clinical assistant professors in Alaska include University of Alaska and Chamberlain University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's health sciences hiring is closely tied to its academic medical centers and tribal health organizations, which frequently recruit faculty with dual clinical and instructional roles.
Which Alaska cities have the most clinical assistant professor jobs?
Fairbanks and Anchorage have the most clinical assistant professor openings in Alaska. Anchorage drives the largest share given its concentration of health systems, University of Alaska Anchorage's health sciences programs, and Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium facilities, while Fairbanks and Juneau follow because of their regional medical centers and University of Alaska campuses serving interior and southeastern Alaska.
Are there remote clinical assistant professor jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're rare. About 25% of clinical assistant professor openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that most positions involve direct patient care or hands-on student instruction that requires on-site presence. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work include curriculum development, online course delivery, and academic advising for distance-learning programs.
How can I get hired as a clinical assistant professor in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a clinical preceptor or adjunct faculty role while maintaining an active clinical position, which is how most Alaska institutions evaluate candidates before offering full appointments. Large health systems like Providence Alaska Medical Center and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium run structured clinical training and preceptorship programs that build the teaching portfolio hiring committees expect. Holding or being eligible for an Alaska clinical license in a high-need specialty such as behavioral health or family medicine gives candidates a meaningful edge.
