The Assistant to the Director serves as the critical operational anchor for the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE) at the University of Alaska - Fairbanks (UAF). At IANRE, we work to enrich the lives of Alaskans by bringing UAF research and expertise directly to citizens, helping families grow food, supporting farmers in crop production and empowering everyday Alaskans to live healthier lives. This position functions at the intersection of executive administration, faculty governance, and statewide operations, providing high-level support to the Director’s Office while ensuring the seamless execution of the faculty lifecycle. Based in Fairbanks, the role oversees a complex portfolio that includes compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), the management of faculty reporting and evaluation processes and the leadership of administrative workflows across more than 100 personnel statewide. As a key representative of the Director’s Office, the Assistant to the Director bridges the gap between institute-level strategy and university-wide policy to ensure operational excellence in service of our mission.
You are a strategic problem-solver who enjoys navigating the nuances of university policy and faculty governance. You should possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and professional tact, as you will often manage sensitive personnel matters and act as a primary liaison between faculty, leadership and various university departments. This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
