INTRODUCTION
BKF is a multi-service infrastructure consulting firm providing civil engineering and surveying services across California, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. With offices throughout California and the Portland area, BKF has served transportation, water resources, land development, government, and federal clients for over 110 years.
The Director of Communications leads the execution of internal and external marketing and communications initiatives, with a strong focus on brand development and application across BKF’s markets. This role is instrumental in shaping and maintaining a consistent and compelling brand presence that reflects BKF’s values and strategic goals. The Director will oversee campaigns and individual deliverables, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to produce engaging and results-driven communications that elevate BKF’s brand and market position.
The Director of Communications will direct internal communications campaigns that advance BKF’s brand, reputation, and market presence. In support of BKF’s Division goals, the Director of Communications oversees BKF’s external marketing projects and is a key partner on external corporate messaging in collaboration with the VP of Marketing & Communications, VP of Key Client Program, Division Executives, Business Development Leaders and technical leadership. This position will also oversee the day-to-day operations of BKF’s Communications department, as well as BKF’s corporate data, and will serve in a lead role in the development, maintenance, and training of the use of BKF’s software applications, as applicable, to the success of the Communications department.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies that inspire, inform, and captivate candidates, employees, and clients, supporting BKF’s Market Verticals.
- Anticipate and update BKF’s Brand Guide providing training to Marketing team elevating BKF’s competitive brand within the industry.
- Maintain BKF’s library of creative examples regularly showcasing them to inspire creativity across the communications team.
- Handle confidential and proprietary information with discretion and integrity.
- Oversee BKF’s Communications department and ensure the timely delivery of assignments while balancing the need to remain agile, adjusting to changing priorities, and encouraging creativity.
- Drive and maintain a 12-24 month marketing and communications calendar for all internal/external campaigns, ensuring frequency and on-time delivery of materials.
- Utilize BKF’s BD Event Calendar promoting our attendance and participation in industry organizations as a thought leader.
- Provide support to all BKF communications and marketing staff across all locations for specific communications initiatives.
- Provide supervision, training, and mentoring to the communications team.
- Oversee workflow for internal and external campaigns assigning work to team members.
- Develop and reinforce quality control/assurance protocols to ensure materials are free of errors and inaccuracies.
- Develop and manage ongoing and time-bound integrated campaigns in support of BKF’s current and planned Markets, firm announcements, and culture initiatives.
- Plan, write, edit, and publish firmwide communications, tailoring content by audience and channel.
- Serve as a liaison to other corporate departments, such as HR, Administration, IT, Accounting, and ERGs, to ensure consistent internal/external communication across the company.
- In collaboration with HR, oversee the development of employee retention and recruiting campaigns, maintaining brand standards with training programs, events, morale management, and incentive programming.
- Oversees BKF’s Awards capture, submissions, and promotion campaigns including assigning resources for award submissions.
- Oversee the timely production of win announcements to reinforce dominance in marketspace.
- Manage aspects of project photography as it relates to marketing campaigns, website assets, and other communications initiatives, including obtaining, maintenance, and storage of event, employee, culture photos/assets, award winning project assets, in BKF’s DAM.
- Update and maintain all BKF Marketing Platforms & Databases: Word Press, Website, Vantagepoint, Intranet, HubSpot, The BKF Store, social media accounts and platforms, as well as other Digital platforms.
- Ensure reliable, accurate, and timely storage of digital assets in OpenAsset for communications materials.
- Own the communications functions of HubSpot workflows, and reporting, as necessary for successful digital marketing initiatives.
- Oversee BKF’s merchandise ordering and operations of the BKF Store, including vendors.
- Ensure the successful execution of BKF’s annual holiday client gifts program.
- Develop, evaluate, and report progress of marketing campaigns (print, digital, etc.), including status, KPIs, barriers, and schedule.
- Regularly provide data on marketing campaign success to inform future decision making.
- Provide competitor analysis on campaigns and performance of marketing and communications programs.
- Provide monthly reports on updates to marketing database and materials.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, or a related field.
- 10+ years of marketing experience in the AEC Industry.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of direct supervision of marketing team members.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, is required.
- Ability to balance priorities and utilize excellent judgment to meet deadlines.
- An eye for great design and ability to create a compelling story.
- Strong graphic arts ability and understanding.
- Detail-oriented, continually strives to improve and expand knowledge/skills.
- Interpersonal skills – Positive/People-oriented attitude, role-model, team-player, supportive.
- Travel to various office locations and other locations as needed.
- Flexible working hours may be required.
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
Benefits
- The typical base salary range for this position is $130,000- $180,000, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
