About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About The Role
Anthropic's Beneficial Deployments team works to bring Claude to high-impact areas such as global health, life sciences, education and economic mobility, largely through partnerships with the organizations already working in those fields. Many of those partnerships involve data or product partnerships to bring Beneficial Deployment impact to bear. The Strategic Data Partnerships team is responsible for structuring and closing those agreements, and we are hiring a business development lead dedicated to this work. You will support the deal work from ideation through signature: scoping what a partner and Anthropic actually want to do together, designing a structure that works for both sides, negotiating the terms and making sure we honour them afterwards. You will work every day with the Beneficial Deployments partner managers who own these relationships, with our legal team, and with the research and product teams who will put the data or the integration to use. This is not a sales role. It is a deal-making role for someone who enjoys structuring strategic business development, is comfortable with deal strategy & operations, and wants that work to matter beyond the commercial outcome.
- Structure and close partnerships. Work with our partner managers and legal team to establish early what a proposed partnership involves – who the partner is and what the scope of the agreement should be – and help decide what to pursue, what to reshape and what to decline.
- Work alongside legal and partner managers. Partner with partner managers & commercial counsel on structure and risk, and help turn recurring deal patterns into standard structures so that we can move quickly and consistently.
- Keep everyone informed. Maintain a clear, current view of the partnership pipeline and communicate status across Beneficial Deployments, legal, research and product.
What We're Looking For
Non-negotiable
- You care about the public-benefit nature of this work.
- 8+ years of experience, most of it negotiating and closing agreements – business development, strategic partnerships, licensing, data or content deals, corporate development or comparable. We are looking for a deal-making background rather than a sales one.
- You have personally led deals from term sheet through signature, including agreements that didn't fit a standard template.
- You are comfortable negotiating complex terms related to rights, use restrictions, privacy and security obligations – and working closely with lawyers on both sides of a deal.
- You have a track record of working cross-functionally, especially with legal teams and with colleagues who own a relationship or program, and you are effective as the business collaborator in that setting.
- You can carry many agreements at once, keep track of what was agreed and stay organized without much structure around you.
- You exercise good judgment: you are comfortable saying no or proposing a different shape for a deal, and you can operate with incomplete information.
Nice to have
- Experience working with nonprofits, foundations, multilateral organizations, universities, health systems or governments as counterparties
- Familiarity with health, education or research data and the frameworks that govern it
- An understanding of how AI models are developed and evaluated, and of product integrations and APIs
- Prior experience at an AI lab, a platform company or a data business
Annual Salary
$240,000—$300,000 USD
Logistics
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

How We're Different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

Frame AI safety fluency in your materials
Anthropic evaluates Product Leads on their understanding of responsible AI development, not just shipping velocity. Your resume and cover letter should demonstrate familiarity with alignment concepts, red-teaming, or safety-conscious product tradeoffs before you apply.
Target roles bridging research and deployment
Anthropic's Product Lead openings frequently sit at the research-to-product boundary. Roles tied to Claude's API, enterprise integrations, or model evaluation teams tend to have clearer specialty occupation footprints, which strengthens the H-1B petition your employer files with USCIS.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Product Lead openings at Anthropic by visa type, so you're only applying to roles where H-1B, H-1B1 visa, or E-3 sponsorship has been confirmed. That saves time you'd otherwise spend chasing roles with uncertain sponsorship.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Before signing, confirm whether Anthropic will cover premium processing through USCIS, which reduces H-1B adjudication to around 15 business days. For E-3 applicants, also confirm whether the Labor Condition Application will be filed before your interview date.
Align your degree field to the role's specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the Product Lead role. Degrees in computer science, cognitive science, or human-computer interaction tend to map cleanly. If yours is adjacent, prepare documentation showing how your coursework applies to AI product development.
Plan your timeline around the H-1B cap and fiscal year
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS opens registration each March for an October 1 start. Build your Anthropic interview and offer timeline backward from that window, allowing several weeks for the LCA certification process with DOL before the petition can be filed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Anthropic sponsor H-1B visas for Product Leads?
Yes, Anthropic sponsors H-1B visas for Product Lead roles. The company has a consistent sponsorship history for this function across its product and research teams. If you're in the H-1B lottery process, Anthropic will file the petition through USCIS after your LCA is certified by DOL. Confirm the specifics of what Anthropic covers, such as legal fees and premium processing, during the offer negotiation stage.
How do I apply for Product Lead jobs at Anthropic?
Apply directly through Anthropic's careers page, or browse verified open roles on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions where visa sponsorship has been confirmed. Anthropic's Product Lead hiring process typically involves a recruiter screen, a product sense interview, a cross-functional leadership round, and a values or mission alignment conversation. Tailoring your application to AI safety and research-commercialization work meaningfully improves your positioning.
Which visa types does Anthropic commonly use for Product Lead roles?
Anthropic sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Product Lead positions. H-1B is the most broadly available option for international candidates. H-1B1 is exclusive to nationals of Chile and Singapore, and E-3 is available only to Australian citizens. All three require the employer to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying that the offered wage meets prevailing wage standards for the role and location.
What qualifications does Anthropic expect for a Product Lead role?
Anthropic typically looks for candidates with a background in technical product management, prior experience working alongside research or ML engineering teams, and genuine familiarity with large language model capabilities and limitations. A degree in computer science, cognitive science, or a related field strengthens your H-1B specialty occupation case. Candidates who can speak concretely to safety-conscious product decisions tend to advance further in the process than those focused purely on growth metrics.
How do I time my application if I need visa sponsorship at Anthropic?
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration opens each March for an October 1 start date, so your offer and onboarding timeline needs to account for that window. E-3 applicants have more flexibility since there's no lottery, but DOL LCA certification still takes one to two weeks before your consular appointment can proceed. Start your job search at least six months before your current work authorization expires to leave enough buffer for filing delays.
