Target subject areas with known shortages
Independent schools like Austin Prep most often sponsor visas for specialized subject teachers, think STEM, classical languages, or foreign language instruction. Tailor your application toward departments where qualified U.S. candidates are hardest to find.
Understand the academic hiring calendar
Private schools typically hire for the following school year between February and April. Starting your outreach in January gives you the best chance of being considered before positions are filled internally or through referrals.
Highlight credentials that align with Catholic school values
Austin Prep is a Catholic school under the Augustinian tradition. Demonstrating familiarity with mission-driven education, not just academic qualifications, strengthens your candidacy and signals cultural fit during the interview process.
Confirm sponsorship willingness early in the process
H-1B sponsorship in the independent school sector isn't always advertised upfront. Raise visa requirements early in conversations with HR to avoid investing time in a process that stalls at the sponsorship stage.
Position your international background as an asset
Schools sponsoring visas often value the global perspective international educators bring to students. Frame your international experience as enriching for the school community, not just a credential requirement to satisfy.
Browse verified sponsoring schools on Migrate Mate

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Austin Preparatory School sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Austin Preparatory School sponsors H-1B visas. The H-1B is the visa type the school has used to hire internationally qualified professionals, most commonly in teaching and instructional roles that require a relevant bachelor's degree or higher in a specialty field. Sponsorship availability varies by hiring cycle, so confirming early in your application is advisable.
What types of roles does Austin Preparatory School typically sponsor visas for?
Visa sponsorship at Austin Prep is most commonly associated with instructional and faculty positions, particularly in subject areas where finding qualified domestic candidates is competitive. Roles in specialized academic departments are the most likely candidates for H-1B sponsorship. Administrative and support roles are less commonly sponsored at independent schools of this size.
How do I know if Austin Preparatory School is actively hiring internationally?
Austin Prep follows the standard independent school hiring calendar, with most faculty openings posted between January and April for the upcoming academic year. Migrate Mate lists verified sponsoring employers and their open roles, so you can check whether Austin Prep has active positions that match your background without having to rely on general job boards.
What should I expect from the H-1B sponsorship process if Austin Preparatory School offers me a role?
If Austin Prep extends an offer and agrees to sponsor your H-1B, the school will work with an immigration attorney to file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, followed by the H-1B petition with USCIS. The full process from offer to approval can take several months, so factoring this into your start date planning is important.
How do I approach Austin Preparatory School about visa sponsorship during the application process?
Raise your visa status requirements early, ideally in your cover letter or initial HR communication, so both sides can assess fit before investing significant time. Be clear about your H-1B eligibility, your degree field, and your timeline. Schools that have sponsored before are generally familiar with the process, and a direct, professional conversation about sponsorship is well-received.
