Obtain your PE license before applying
BKF Engineers operates as a licensed engineering firm, and many Structural Engineer roles require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer credential. Starting the PE licensure process early signals readiness and removes a common barrier during the offer stage.
Align your portfolio with BKF's project types
BKF focuses on civil and structural work across transportation, land development, and building projects. Tailor your resume and project samples to match these sectors so hiring managers at BKF can immediately see relevant experience.
Evaluate your degree equivalency for PERM filings
If your engineering degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before your employer files PERM. DOL requires the stated minimum requirements to be documented consistently, and a foreign degree mismatch can delay or invalidate the labor certification.
Track Structural Engineer openings through Migrate Mate
BKF Engineers posts Structural Engineer roles at multiple office locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter active openings by sponsorship eligibility so you're only targeting roles where EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship is confirmed, not assumed.
Prepare for USCIS requests during I-140 adjudication
For EB-3 petitions, USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence questioning whether your role genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in structural engineering. Work with BKF's immigration counsel to document the technical complexity of your specific position before filing.

Find Structural Engineer at BKF Engineers JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does BKF Engineers sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
BKF Engineers' primary sponsorship pathway for Structural Engineers is employment-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, rather than H-1B. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, BKF can file an H-1B transfer, but the firm's documented sponsorship activity centers on permanent residence pathways rather than initial H-1B cap filings.
Which visa types are commonly used for Structural Engineer roles at BKF Engineers?
BKF Engineers sponsors Structural Engineers through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card categories, both of which require a PERM labor certification filed with the Department of Labor. EB-2 applies to roles requiring an advanced degree or exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers positions requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
What qualifications and experience does BKF Engineers expect for Structural Engineer roles?
BKF typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering, along with demonstrated experience in structural analysis, design software such as ETABS or SAP2000, and familiarity with IBC and ASCE standards. Candidates pursuing sponsorship should also be progressing toward or already holding a Professional Engineer license, which is often required for independent project responsibility.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at BKF Engineers?
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, plan on a minimum of 18 to 24 months from offer to approved I-140 petition, assuming no DOL or USCIS delays. The PERM labor certification alone currently runs 12 to 18 months at DOL. If your priority date is current when the I-140 is approved, you can move to adjustment of status; otherwise, you'll wait for a visa number to become available.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at BKF Engineers?
BKF Engineers posts open Structural Engineer positions across its office locations throughout the year. You can browse and apply for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed using Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by sponsorship eligibility so you avoid applying to positions that don't support international candidates. Tailor your application to highlight structural design experience relevant to BKF's civil and infrastructure project portfolio.
