Frame your case experience for BCG's model
BCG Strategy roles require demonstrated hypothesis-driven problem solving, not just industry knowledge. Structure your resume and cover letter around case impact metrics and client outcomes to signal you can contribute from day one without a learning curve.
Identify which visa pathway fits your background
BCG sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT depending on your nationality and status. Australians on E-3 and Canadians on TN avoid the H-1B lottery entirely, which makes your candidacy significantly less risky for BCG's recruiting timeline.
Target BCG's consulting-track recruiting calendar early
BCG hires Strategy consultants through structured MBA and undergraduate recruiting cycles with fixed offer deadlines. Align your application to those windows because off-cycle sponsorship requests for Strategy roles are handled differently and can complicate LCA filing timelines with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Strategy roles at BCG
BCG posts Strategy openings across offices with varying sponsorship availability by location. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring roles at BCG specifically, so you're applying to positions where your visa type is already supported rather than asking HR to accommodate it.
Prepare your credentials before the offer stage
BCG's HR team moves quickly from offer to USCIS filing. Have your degree transcripts, foreign credential evaluation if applicable, and any prior visa documentation organized in advance so your sponsoring attorney can prepare the H-1B or E-3 petition without delays.
Understand how BCG handles H-1B cap-exempt transitions
If you're moving from a university or nonprofit employer to BCG, your H-1B status is cap-subject again unless you've already been counted. Confirm your prior H-1B registration history before BCG initiates a new petition to avoid surprises during USCIS processing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Boston Consulting Group sponsor H-1B visas for Strategys?
Yes, BCG sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy roles. The firm participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April for cap-subject candidates, so your timeline to start depends on the registration cycle. If you're Australian or Canadian, BCG also sponsors E-3 visa and TN visas, which don't require lottery selection and allow faster onboarding.
How do I apply for Strategy jobs at Boston Consulting Group?
BCG recruits Strategy consultants primarily through its structured campus recruiting process for MBA and undergraduate candidates, with applications submitted through BCG's careers portal. Off-cycle applications are accepted but less common for Strategy roles. Prepare for case interviews as a core part of the process. You can browse current verified openings on Migrate Mate to identify which Strategy roles at BCG are actively sponsored.
Which visa types does BCG commonly use for Strategy roles?
BCG sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and H-1B1 visas for Strategy positions, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. Your nationality largely determines which pathway applies. E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, TN to Canadians and Mexicans, and H-1B1 visa to Chilean and Singaporean nationals. Each has different filing requirements and timelines.
What qualifications does BCG expect for sponsored Strategy roles?
BCG's Strategy roles typically require a bachelor's degree at minimum, with most sponsored positions at the consultant or project leader level filled by MBA graduates or candidates with strong analytical backgrounds. For H-1B purposes, your degree must be in a field directly related to the role. Consulting experience, quantitative skills, and demonstrated client impact carry significant weight in the evaluation process.
How do I plan my timeline if BCG is sponsoring my H-1B?
If BCG sponsors your H-1B, the firm registers you in the lottery by mid-March for an October 1 start date. If selected, USCIS issues a receipt and BCG's immigration counsel files the full petition by June. Factor in that your F-1 OPT must cover the gap between your start date and October 1, or BCG may request a cap-gap extension to keep you in status.
