Align your credentials to U.S. licensure expectations
Brown and Caldwell's structural roles often expect progress toward a PE license. Before applying, verify your foreign engineering degree qualifies for EIT exam eligibility in your target state, since PE pathways vary and some states have stricter foreign credential review requirements.
Target offices near major infrastructure project activity
Brown and Caldwell staffs structural engineers against active project pipelines, not headcount targets. Research which regional offices are bidding or delivering water and wastewater infrastructure work, then apply directly to postings tied to those locations for stronger hiring urgency.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open sponsorship-eligible roles
Structural Engineer openings at Brown and Caldwell that include visa sponsorship aren't always labeled clearly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track roles at Brown and Caldwell that explicitly support H-1B, OPT, or TN candidates.
Clarify your OPT or CPT authorization during initial conversations
If you're on F-1 OPT, Brown and Caldwell can bring you on without waiting for an H-1B approval. Surface your work authorization status early in recruiter conversations so the team can plan around your OPT expiration and H-1B cap filing window.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline relative to your start date
USCIS only accepts H-1B cap petitions in April, with an October 1 start date if selected. If you're negotiating an offer in summer or fall, confirm whether Brown and Caldwell will bridge your status or defer your start to align with the next filing cycle.
Prepare a project portfolio demonstrating structural system depth
Brown and Caldwell's consulting environment expects applied structural judgment, not just calculation outputs. Build a portfolio that shows your involvement in structural system selection, code compliance decisions, and coordination with civil or mechanical disciplines on infrastructure projects.

Find Structural Engineer at Brown and Caldwell JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Brown and Caldwell sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, Brown and Caldwell sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineers. The firm operates in an engineering consulting environment where international hiring is common, and it has an established process for supporting work authorization. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can typically start before an H-1B is filed, with the company petitioning during the April cap season for an October 1 start.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at Brown and Caldwell?
Apply through Brown and Caldwell's careers portal, where postings are listed by region and discipline. Tailor your application to highlight structural design experience on water, environmental, or civil infrastructure projects, since those align with the firm's core service lines. Migrate Mate also aggregates Brown and Caldwell openings that support visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify eligible roles without sifting through every posting manually.
Which visa types does Brown and Caldwell use for Structural Engineer roles?
Brown and Caldwell supports H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, J-1, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Structural Engineers. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying roles. For longer-term employees, the firm has supported PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, though timelines depend on the individual's situation and country of birth.
What qualifications does Brown and Caldwell expect for Structural Engineer candidates?
Brown and Caldwell typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering, progress toward or achievement of a PE license, and experience with structural analysis software such as RISA, SAP2000, or RAM. For consulting roles, experience coordinating structural work within multidiscipline infrastructure projects, particularly water and wastewater facilities, is a meaningful differentiator over candidates with only building-focused backgrounds.
How long does the sponsorship and onboarding process take for Structural Engineers at Brown and Caldwell?
Timeline depends on your current visa status. F-1 OPT candidates can start quickly if authorization is already active. H-1B candidates without existing status must wait for the April lottery and an October 1 start, a gap of six months or more from offer to start date. USCIS premium processing can reduce the petition review window to roughly 15 business days, which Brown and Caldwell may offer in time-sensitive hiring situations.
