Description
The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering seek applicants for the position of Teaching Professor (all ranks). Teaching faculty positions are non-tenure track appointments with a fixed term academic year contract.
We seek applicants with a demonstrated history of university-level instruction in Biomedical Engineering and related foundational areas, including, but not limited to, applied mathematics with an emphasis on physiology for engineers, biomedical instrumentation, biomaterials, and molecular techniques.
We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship. Successful applicants will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative undergraduate and graduate curricula, support transdisciplinary education, and foster inclusive learning environments that promote student success. Faculty are expected to adopt effective, evidence-based pedagogical practices, engage in curriculum development (including online and immersive modalities), advise undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in service activities that support program growth and community engagement. While this is a teaching-focused position, candidates who engage in scholarly or use-inspired activities that enhance education and workforce development are encouraged to do so.
Appointment will be at the Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or (Full) Teaching Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2026.
Essential Functions:
- Contribute to curriculum development.
- Deliver instruction in-person and/or online.

Desired qualifications:
- History of university-level instruction related to Biomedical Engineering undergraduate courses and basic applied mathematics with an emphasis on physiology for engineers, biomedical instrumentation, biomaterials, and/or molecular techniques.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning and expertise in Biomedical Engineering curriculum innovation.
- Familiarity with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) processes.
- Ideally, the position will include curating and managing interactions with external partners for student projects, including capstone design projects. The ability to manage a cell culture facility for student projects is considered a plus.
- Experience managing instructional prototyping resources—such as machine shop equipment and 3D printers—to support biomedical device design and fabrication for student projects will also be considered a plus.

Target roles requiring specialized academic credentials
ASU's E-3 filings concentrate in research, faculty, and professional staff roles where a specific degree field is required. Positions in data science, instructional design, and academic advising often meet the specialty occupation threshold more cleanly than general administrative roles.
Align your degree field to the job description
E-3 approval depends on a direct connection between your degree and the offered role. If your Australian qualification is in a related but not identical field, gather course transcripts showing relevant coursework before your interview with ASU's HR team.
Confirm ASU's HR handles LCA filing in-house
Large universities often process Labor Condition Applications through their own international employment office rather than outside counsel. Ask ASU's Office of University Human Resources early whether they file the LCA directly or route it through a third-party immigration vendor.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and Arizona location before accepting ASU's offer. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure for the LCA to certify, and ASU cannot legally pay below it.
Search ASU's verified E-3 filing history on Migrate Mate
Before applying, use Migrate Mate to review ASU's DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by occupation code. This shows which departments have sponsored E-3 roles and helps you target your application toward teams with an established sponsorship track record.
Prepare your O*NET occupation evidence early
USCIS assesses whether your role qualifies as a specialty occupation partly by reference to O*NET. Print the O*NET profile for your job title, confirm the listed education requirement is a bachelor's degree or higher, and include it in your consulate interview documents.
Arizona State University E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arizona State University sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Arizona State University sponsors E-3 visas for eligible Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. ASU has an established international employment function that handles visa sponsorship across its campuses. Roles in research, technology, academic administration, and professional services are among those that have received E-3 sponsorship support.
Which departments or roles at ASU are most likely to offer E-3 sponsorship?
Research institutes, information technology, academic affairs, and student success operations at ASU tend to hire for roles that meet the specialty occupation definition. Positions requiring a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, such as research analyst, instructional technologist, or academic program manager, are strong candidates for E-3 eligibility.
How do I start the E-3 application process after receiving a job offer from ASU?
Once ASU extends an offer, their HR or international employment team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you apply for the E-3 visa at a U.S. consulate in Australia with your offer letter, LCA, and DS-160. You don't file anything with USCIS for a consular E-3. The process typically takes four to eight weeks from offer to visa stamp.
How long does E-3 visa processing take when sponsored by ASU?
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days. Consulate appointment wait times in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth vary by season but often run one to four weeks. End-to-end, most Australian candidates reach the visa stamp stage within four to eight weeks of ASU initiating the LCA, though administrative processing can extend that timeline in some cases.
How do I find open E-3 roles at ASU and verify they include visa sponsorship?
Search ASU's careers portal and filter for roles in your field, then confirm sponsorship directly with the hiring team or HR during the screening stage. Migrate Mate lists ASU positions filtered for verified E-3 sponsorship history, so you can identify which job types ASU has sponsored before and prioritize your applications accordingly.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Arizona State University?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
