Target faculty and research postings directly
CSUF's E-3 filings have concentrated in academic and research roles rather than administrative positions. Focus your search on tenure-track faculty openings, visiting lecturer roles, and research coordinator positions within colleges like Business and Economics, Engineering, and Natural Sciences.
Confirm your role meets specialty occupation criteria
CSUF's HR team will assess whether your position qualifies under USCIS specialty occupation standards before initiating sponsorship. Cross-reference your job duties against the O*NET profile for your occupation code to build a clear degree-to-role connection before your first interview.
Request a Labor Condition Application timeline upfront
At CSUF, sponsorship involves DOL LCA certification before your visa application can proceed. Ask your hiring contact when the LCA will be filed, since delays at the department level can push your start date even after an offer is signed.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage data
Your E-3 offer must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your SOC code in the Fullerton, California metropolitan area before negotiating, so you can flag any offer that falls below the threshold.
Use Migrate Mate to verify CSUF's E-3 filing history
Before advancing through CSUF's interview process, search Migrate Mate to review the university's E-3 LCA filing history by occupation. Knowing which job titles CSUF has sponsored before helps you tailor your application to roles where sponsorship approval is a realistic outcome.
Align your credential evaluation to U.S. degree equivalency
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 specialty occupation purposes, but CSUF's HR team may request a formal credential evaluation. Obtain one from a NACES-member agency before your offer letter is issued to avoid delays.
California State University, Fullerton E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does California State University Fullerton sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, California State University Fullerton sponsors E-3 visas for eligible Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, research, and academic professional positions. CSUF's international hiring process is managed through its HR and faculty affairs offices, which coordinate LCA filing and visa documentation with the sponsoring department.
Which departments at California State University Fullerton are most likely to sponsor E-3 visas?
E-3 sponsorship at CSUF tends to occur in departments with active faculty searches and research programs, including Engineering and Computer Science, Business and Economics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Arts. Administrative and operations roles are less commonly sponsored, since the specialty occupation requirement is easier to demonstrate for credentialed academic positions.
How do I start the E-3 visa process after receiving a CSUF job offer?
Once CSUF extends a formal offer, the sponsoring department works with HR to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL. After LCA certification, you complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and schedule your visa interview at a U.S. consulate in Australia. USCIS is not involved in consular E-3 applications, so there's no petition filing step on the employer side.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at California State University Fullerton?
LCA certification typically takes around seven business days if filed without errors. After that, consulate appointment wait times in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth determine the remaining timeline. From offer acceptance to visa stamp, most applicants should plan for three to six weeks, though peak periods at Australian consulates can extend this. Confirm the department's intended start date early to allow enough lead time.
How do I find open E-3-eligible roles at California State University Fullerton?
Search CSUF's official careers portal for faculty and research postings, then verify which roles have been sponsored before using Migrate Mate's employer search. Filtering by occupation type helps you identify positions where CSUF has an established sponsorship track record, which strengthens your case when discussing visa support with a hiring manager early in the process.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at California State University Fullerton?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
