Target specialty occupation roles directly
NSU's E-3 sponsorship concentrates in roles requiring a specific bachelor's degree or higher, such as faculty, clinical, research, and IT positions. Avoid applying to administrative roles where degree-field alignment is ambiguous, those are harder to qualify as specialty occupations.
Align your degree to the job description
NSU hiring managers and their HR team will assess whether your degree field directly matches the advertised role. Use O*NET to confirm the occupation's typical education requirements before applying, so your credentials clearly support the specialty occupation classification.
Ask HR about the LCA filing timeline upfront
NSU must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa appointment. Ask the HR or international office contact when they plan to submit the LCA so you can schedule your consular appointment in Australia without a gap between LCA certification and your interview date.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your role and NSU's location in Florida. Check the OFLC Wage Search using your job title and county before your offer conversation, so you know the floor and can negotiate confidently without stalling the LCA filing.
Prepare your credential documentation early
NSU's international hiring process typically requires certified transcripts, degree equivalency documentation for Australian three-year degrees, and evidence of your specialty field. Gather these before your offer stage, as delays in document collection are the most common reason timelines slip at university employers.
Use Migrate Mate to handle the filing paperwork
Once NSU extends an offer and the LCA is certified, use Migrate Mate to prepare your E-3 application documents at a flat fee. Migrate Mate's dedicated E-3 experts handle the filing packet so you arrive at your consular appointment with everything in order.
Nova Southeastern University E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nova Southeastern University sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Nova Southeastern University sponsors E-3 visas for eligible Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most common in faculty, research, clinical, and technical positions where a specific degree field is required. NSU's Office of Human Resources and its international office manage the LCA filing and employer-side documentation required for E-3 applications.
Which departments or roles at Nova Southeastern University typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at NSU is most common in academic departments, health sciences programs, research institutes, and information technology. Faculty positions, postdoctoral roles, clinical staff, and professional staff roles in specialized fields are the most frequent candidates. General administrative or support roles that don't require a degree in a specific field are less likely to qualify as specialty occupations under E-3 criteria.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at Nova Southeastern University?
After receiving a job offer, NSU's HR team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL on your behalf. Once the LCA is certified, you complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and attend a consular interview in Australia. NSU provides the certified LCA and a support letter for your interview. Using Migrate Mate to prepare your application packet helps ensure all documents are correctly assembled before your appointment.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at Nova Southeastern University?
The LCA filing with DOL typically certifies within seven business days. After certification, your consular appointment wait time in Australia depends on the specific consulate and time of year. Most E-3 applicants complete the full process from offer acceptance to visa issuance within four to eight weeks, though document preparation on both sides can affect that window.
What can I do to strengthen my E-3 application at Nova Southeastern University?
Confirm your degree field directly matches the role's requirements before applying, and gather certified transcripts and any credential evaluation for your Australian degree early. Check the OFLC Wage Search to verify your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for your role in Florida. Review USCIS guidance on specialty occupation criteria so you can clearly articulate the degree-to-job connection if NSU's HR team or the consular officer asks.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Nova Southeastern University?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
