Target Faculty and Research Roles First
EKU's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Focus your search on faculty openings, postdoctoral roles, and research coordinator positions, where H-1B and Green Card sponsorship is most commonly offered.
Understand EKU's Visa Mix
Eastern Kentucky University sponsors H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways alongside F-1 OPT and CPT. If you're already in OPT status, EKU's willingness to transition candidates to H-1B makes it a practical long-term option.
Apply Well Ahead of the H-1B Cap Deadline
Universities like EKU must file H-1B petitions by the April cap deadline for an October start. Begin your application process in the preceding fall or winter to give HR enough lead time to prepare paperwork.
Highlight Specialized Credentials in Your Application
EKU hires for specialty occupations requiring specific degree fields. Clearly connect your academic credentials to the role's requirements in your cover letter, this directly supports the specialty occupation argument for H-1B approval.
Check Whether the Role Qualifies as Cap-Exempt
As a public university, EKU may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filings in certain circumstances, allowing year-round petitions without lottery exposure. Ask HR about this when a role is offered, it can significantly speed up your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Verified Sponsorship Openings
EKU posts roles across departments with varying sponsorship availability. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving you the guesswork of cold-applying to positions that may not support visa petitions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Eastern Kentucky University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Eastern Kentucky University sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and professional staff in specialty occupations. As a public university, EKU has an established HR process for managing H-1B petitions, making it a more straightforward sponsor than many private employers of similar size. Roles in academic departments and health sciences are the most common pathways.
What visa types does Eastern Kentucky University sponsor?
EKU sponsors H-1B and Green Card petitions (EB-2 and EB-3) for long-term hires, as well as TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. The university also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for current students and recent graduates, giving international candidates multiple entry points depending on their status.
Which departments or roles at EKU are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at EKU tends to be strongest in faculty and academic positions, particularly in health sciences, education, and research-intensive programs. Staff roles in IT, institutional research, and clinical programs have also drawn sponsored hires. Positions that require a specific degree field are better candidates for H-1B sponsorship than general administrative roles.
How do I approach the application process at EKU as an international candidate?
Apply through EKU's official careers portal and indicate your visa status early in the process. Universities typically have a dedicated international hiring contact in HR, so asking directly about sponsorship availability once you reach the interview stage is appropriate and expected. Applying early relative to H-1B cap deadlines gives the institution enough time to prepare a petition without rushing.
How do I find open roles at Eastern Kentucky University that offer visa sponsorship?
EKU lists positions across multiple departments, but not every role clearly states whether sponsorship is available. Migrate Mate aggregates verified sponsorship data so you can browse EKU's open positions alongside their confirmed sponsorship history, rather than spending time applying to roles that may not support visa petitions. Filtering by visa type helps narrow your search quickly.
