INTRODUCTION
Support critical electric distribution projects focused on wildfire mitigation, grid resiliency, and infrastructure improvements. This role combines utility design, GIS/CAD drafting, field assessments, and project coordination while offering a flexible hybrid schedule with 1–2 days in the office and occasional field visits.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design & Grid Resiliency: Design electric distribution projects (overhead and underground) from initiation to completion, with a heavy focus on fire mitigation, pole replacements, and system hardening.
- Technical Drafting: Create, update, and revise construction sketches, drawings, and joint-use proposals using client’s proprietary GIS platforms and drafting software.
- System Engineering Support: Perform key utility design calculations, including pole loading, transformer sizing, underground cable routing, and equipment placement to ensure compliance with utility standards.
- Field Engineering: Conduct field visits to residential, commercial, and wildland-urban interface (WUI) sites to perform physical assessments, verify existing assets, and gather critical design data.
- Project Management & Collaboration: Track project lifecycles, manage material procurement (creating Bills of Materials), and coordinate directly with scheduling, project management, and utility construction crews.
- Customer & Client Relations: Act as a key point of contact for customers, land owners, and construction crews to communicate design solutions and resolve field conflicts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2–4+ years of experience in utility design (electric preferred), electrical construction, or civil/mechanical drafting. Experience with GIS platforms (such as GE Smallworld), AutoCAD, or utility-specific design software is a plus.
- Candidates with additional years of utility design experience may be considered for a higher-level title based on technical expertise, project experience, and responsibilities.
- We also welcome candidates transitioning from construction, land surveying, electrical trades, or customer service backgrounds who are detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and eager to grow. Training will be provided on utility design systems and standards.
KEY SKILLS
- Strong spatial reasoning and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or maps.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with internal engineering teams and external customers.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project designs concurrently.
- Comfort with a hybrid work model that includes regular field visits in various weather conditions (including winter weather).
- A valid driver’s license and operating vehicle (field travel is required; mileage reimbursement is provided).
WHAT WE OFFER

Align Your Credentials with Field Requirements
ENTRUST places Technicians on infrastructure and utility projects where certifications like NETA, NICET, or relevant trade licenses often matter more than a four-year degree. Confirm your credentials are U.S.-recognized before applying so hiring managers can assess sponsorship feasibility immediately.
Target Openings in Underserved Service Regions
Consulting and engineering services firms like ENTRUST staff Technicians across distributed project sites, not just headquarters. Roles in regions with fewer local candidates give you stronger leverage when asking a hiring manager to initiate H-1B or TN sponsorship conversations early.
Raise Sponsorship Before the Offer Stage
Don't wait for a written offer to surface your visa needs. Ask the recruiter directly during the first screen whether the Technician role is approved for sponsorship, so both sides avoid wasted time if the specific position or location isn't eligible.
Understand How TN Status Fits Field Roles
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN classification can support certain engineering technician functions ENTRUST hires for. Confirm with your immigration attorney that your specific job duties align with a qualifying TN category before accepting any offer contingent on that status.
Use OPT or CPT to Build a Sponsorship Track Record
ENTRUST has hired F-1 students through OPT and CPT, which gives you a practical runway to demonstrate field performance before the H-1B cap lottery. Starting in a Technician role on OPT makes a future sponsorship request far easier for the internal team to approve.
Browse Verified Sponsoring Employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Technician openings by visa type on Migrate Mate to confirm ENTRUST Solutions Group is actively sponsoring for the specific role and work authorization you need. This cuts research time and surfaces roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ENTRUST Solutions Group sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, ENTRUST Solutions Group has sponsored H-1B visas for Technician roles. Because H-1B sponsorship requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, ENTRUST typically pursues this pathway for Technician functions that require a relevant bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Your specific job duties and educational background will determine whether the role meets USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at ENTRUST Solutions Group?
You can apply directly through ENTRUST Solutions Group's careers portal or find open Technician positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. When applying, clearly document your technical certifications, relevant field experience, and work authorization status so the recruiting team can route your application to hiring managers who have sponsorship approval for the role.
Which visa types does ENTRUST Solutions Group commonly use for Technician roles?
ENTRUST has used H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Technician positions. TN visa is often the fastest option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles. F-1 OPT is a common entry point for recent graduates, while EB-3 is frequently used for skilled technician classifications in the PERM-based Green Card process.
What qualifications does ENTRUST Solutions Group expect for Technician positions?
ENTRUST Technician roles typically require hands-on experience with electrical, utility, or infrastructure systems, along with relevant field certifications such as NETA or NICET depending on the service line. A two- or four-year degree in electrical technology, engineering technology, or a related discipline is common. Project-based experience and the ability to work at distributed client sites are consistently valued across their Technician openings.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for Technician roles at ENTRUST?
Timeline depends on the visa pathway. TN status for eligible Canadian nationals can be obtained at the port of entry in a single day. H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's annual cap lottery with a standard October 1 start date, or faster with premium processing if the petition is approved. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-3 typically takes one to three years from filing through final approval, depending on your country of birth and current USCIS processing times.
