Position Purpose
Coordinates science curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning in alignment with the District's Strategic Plan and commitment to academic excellence. This role supports campuses, teachers, principals, and district staff in implementing a rigorous science program for all learners across secondary grade levels, ensuring high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), standards-based lessons, and equitable practices. The position will write curriculum and provide instructional support for the regular program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates secondary science instructional support, curriculum writing, assessment development, and professional learning for all stakeholders (grades 6–12).
- Supports campus leaders and teachers in planning, internalizing, and delivering TEKS-aligned science lessons aligned to district-adopted HQIM.
- Develops and maintains district-level secondary science curriculum, instructional planning calendars (IPCs), scope and sequence documents, and assessment blueprints.
- Designs and revises common formative assessments and aligned demonstrations of learning to monitor student progress toward mastery.
- Assists with providing campus-based professional development aligned to district priorities and secondary science initiatives.
- Builds capacity of campus administrators, science department chairs, instructional coaches, and classroom teachers.
- Provides leadership in the identification, evaluation, adoption, and implementation of effective secondary science instructional resources.
- Contributes to the development of districtwide professional learning plans based on data trends, STAAR and EOC performance, and campus needs.
- Creates and delivers professional learning focused on secondary science instructional rigor, laboratory safety, scientific reasoning, and student discourse.
- Participates in train-the-trainer programs and delivers campus and district professional development to support high-quality secondary science instruction.
- Supports teachers through observation/feedback, modeling, co-teaching, coaching, and professional learning cycles.
- Collaborates with teachers on lesson internalization, laboratory design, safety protocols, and aligned student demonstrations of learning.
- Facilitates data-driven conversations with campus leaders and science teams to support instructional improvement and student achievement.
- Collaborates with other Content Coordinators across the Curriculum & Instruction division to ensure vertical alignment and coherence.
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation of campus support and professional learning.
