Frame your experience around therapeutic strategy
Genentech's Strategy roles often sit at the intersection of commercial and clinical. Tailor your resume to show experience analyzing market access, payer dynamics, or pipeline prioritization, not just general business strategy.
Target roles aligned with active pipeline areas
Genentech's hiring clusters around oncology, immunology, and rare disease franchises. Focusing your applications on Strategy openings within these franchises increases your chances of landing in a function with established sponsorship workflows.
Clarify your OPT timeline before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and expiration date before your first interview. Genentech's HR teams factor OPT runway into offer timing, and a tight window can complicate the process unnecessarily.
Ask about LCA filing timing during offer negotiation
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Confirming this step is already in motion before you set a start date prevents last-minute scheduling conflicts.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Strategy roles at Genentech
Strategy openings fill quickly and aren't always posted on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter Genentech's active roles by visa sponsorship type so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Prepare credentials for specialty occupation documentation
USCIS requires that H-1B Strategy roles demonstrate a direct connection between your degree field and the specific role. Gather transcripts, a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., and any relevant professional certifications before your offer stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Genentech sponsor H-1B visas for Strategys?
Yes, Genentech sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy roles. The company has an established process for petitioning USCIS on behalf of international hires in business and strategy functions. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are tied to the annual lottery, timing your offer and application relative to the April filing window is essential.
How do I apply for Strategy jobs at Genentech?
Applications go through Genentech's careers portal at gene.com. Strategy roles are posted under functions like Commercial, Business Development, or Corporate Strategy depending on the team. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Genentech's open Strategy positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which saves time identifying roles where international candidates are actively considered.
Which visa types does Genentech commonly use for Strategy roles?
Genentech sponsors H-1B visas for most Strategy hires requiring work authorization. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for candidates earlier in their career or during internships. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. For longer-term employees, Genentech also supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based pathways.
What qualifications does Genentech expect for Strategy roles?
Most Strategy positions at Genentech require a bachelor's degree in business, life sciences, economics, or a related field, with an MBA preferred for senior roles. Practical experience in healthcare strategy, management consulting with pharma or medtech clients, or market access is weighted heavily. Familiarity with oncology or other core Genentech therapeutic areas strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Genentech Strategy role?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B standard processing through USCIS runs three to five months after the April lottery, with premium processing available to shorten that to 15 business days. If you're transitioning from OPT, your start date needs to align with your authorization period. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, if offered, typically takes two to four years from initiation.
