Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Key Account Management: Ensure quality service and profitable business growth by managing a portfolio of complex customer relationships and/or a small team of account managers.
- Customer Relationship Development / Prospecting: Develop and implement a relationship management plan for strategic, complex potential accounts to build key relationships at local and national levels. Align your credentials to GHD's sectors
GHD hires Development Directors across water, energy, environment, and transportation consulting. Frame your credentials around specific sector wins, not just titles. A portfolio showing revenue growth or client expansion in infrastructure services will resonate far more than a generalist background.
Target GHD's regional offices strategically
GHD's Development Director openings cluster in regions with active infrastructure spending. Research which U.S. offices are growing their advisory practice and apply to those locations directly. Regional fit often determines sponsorship feasibility faster than company-wide headcount.
Clarify sponsorship scope during offer negotiations
Before signing, confirm whether GHD will cover PERM labor certification for EB-2 or EB-3, or only nonimmigrant filings like TN or H-1B. Consulting firms sometimes limit green card support to senior roles, and Development Director sits right at that threshold.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified GHD openings
Not every GHD Development Director posting discloses sponsorship eligibility upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter GHD roles by visa type so you're only spending time on positions where your status is actually supported, whether that's F-1 OPT, TN, or EB-2.
Prepare your LCA documentation before the offer stage
GHD's HR team will need to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before any H-1B petition moves forward. Having your employment history, degree transcripts, and role-specific scope documented in advance compresses that pre-filing window significantly.
Distinguish your OPT start date from your H-1B cap-gap window
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT into a GHD Development Director role, your authorized work period doesn't automatically extend if your H-1B petition is still pending at USCIS. Confirm your I-94 end date and OPT expiration against your petition receipt date to avoid an unintentional status gap.

Find Development Director at GHD JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Development Directors?
GHD does sponsor H-1B visas, and Development Director roles fall within the specialty occupation criteria that H-1B requires. Because the H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery, timing matters. Roles starting October 1 require a registration in March, so align your job search timeline accordingly and confirm with GHD's HR team which petitions they actively support.
Which visa types are commonly used for Development Director roles at GHD?
GHD supports several visa categories for this function. H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant path for degree-holding professionals. Canadian and Mexican nationals often use the TN visa given its simpler process and no lottery requirement. For longer-term U.S. residency, GHD has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions, which involve PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications and experience does GHD expect for Development Director roles?
GHD's Development Director positions typically require a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or a related field, with significant experience in business development within infrastructure or professional services consulting. You'll be expected to demonstrate a track record of winning and growing client accounts, often with specific sector expertise in water, energy, transportation, or environment.
How do I apply for Development Director jobs at GHD?
Browse active GHD Development Director openings on Migrate Mate, where roles are filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm your status is supported before applying. When you apply directly through GHD's careers portal, tailor your application to the specific regional office and sector focus listed in the posting. Generic applications for senior roles rarely move forward at consulting firms of this size.
How do I manage the timeline from offer to visa approval for a GHD Development Director role?
The timeline varies by visa type. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry for Canadian nationals in days. H-1B standard processing with USCIS takes three to five months, with premium processing available to compress that to 15 business days. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card processes involve PERM labor certification, which adds a year or more. Discuss these timelines with GHD's HR team during the offer stage so your start date is realistic.
