Frame your credentials around infrastructure advisory
GHD's consulting work spans water, transport, and environmental sectors. Translating your academic background and project experience into these domains before you apply strengthens your specialty occupation case if you pursue H-1B or EB-2 sponsorship later.
Identify which GHD practice area fits your background
GHD posts Business Consultant roles across distinct service lines. Targeting a specific practice, such as environmental advisory or asset management, sharpens your application and signals fit to hiring managers who are evaluating sponsorship viability alongside technical match.
Clarify your OPT or TN status early in conversations
GHD sponsors TN and F-1 OPT, so raising your authorization timeline before an offer avoids late-stage surprises. Asking directly about the company's experience with your specific visa category is a practical step, not a red flag.
Understand the PERM timeline before accepting an offer
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process requires DOL-supervised recruitment and can take over a year before USCIS even sees your petition. Confirm GHD's willingness to initiate that process during offer negotiations.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Business Consultant roles at GHD
GHD lists Business Consultant positions across multiple locations at any given time. Use Migrate Mate to filter those openings by visa type so you're only reviewing roles where your authorization pathway is already confirmed as viable.
Align your start date with your visa's authorized period
If you're on OPT, your 60-day grace period begins the day your employment ends, not when your EAD expires. Coordinate your GHD start date carefully so you're not working outside your authorized period while a change of status or transfer is pending.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Business Consultants?
GHD's sponsorship activity for Business Consultant roles focuses on pathways including EB-2, EB-3, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visa rather than H-1B visa. If H-1B sponsorship is your primary goal, confirm directly with GHD's talent acquisition team during the interview process, since sponsorship decisions are role- and location-specific.
How do I apply for Business Consultant jobs at GHD?
Applications go through GHD's careers portal, where you can filter by role and location. Migrate Mate also lists GHD's open Business Consultant positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which lets you confirm which roles align with your authorization before you apply. Tailoring your application to GHD's specific service lines, such as environment, water, or transport advisory, improves your chances significantly.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Business Consultant roles?
GHD has sponsored Business Consultants through TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing U.S. degrees, J-1 for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and how long you intend to stay in the U.S.
What qualifications does GHD expect for Business Consultant roles?
GHD typically looks for candidates with a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or a related technical discipline, plus demonstrated project delivery or consulting experience. For specialty occupation visa purposes, the degree-to-role connection matters, so a background in infrastructure, water systems, or environmental advisory strengthens both your application and any future USCIS petition.
How do I time my application to account for visa processing?
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply to GHD roles several months before your EAD expires to leave room for employer onboarding and any status change filings. For TN candidates, processing can happen at a port of entry, which is faster. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship involves a PERM filing with DOL that can take one to two years, so that conversation needs to happen at the offer stage, not after you've started.
