How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Texas State University H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target faculty and research postings first
Texas State University's H-1B sponsorships are concentrated in academic and research roles. Focus your search on faculty positions, postdoctoral appointments, and research staff roles, where international hiring and visa sponsorship are most common.
Engage with the Office of International Programs early
Texas State's international services office coordinates H-1B filings with hiring departments. Reaching out early in the hiring process signals your awareness of the timeline and helps the department plan for petition preparation well in advance.
Understand the academic hiring calendar
Universities like Texas State hire on academic cycles. Faculty searches often open in fall for positions starting the following academic year. Aligning your application with these cycles gives you the best chance of securing a sponsored role.
Confirm sponsorship intent before deep into the process

Does Texas State University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Texas State University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying positions. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, research staff, and specialized professional roles where the position meets the specialty occupation standard. The university's international services office manages the petition process in coordination with the hiring department.
Which roles and departments at Texas State University typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Texas State University is concentrated in academic and research-facing roles, including tenure-track and visiting faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and certain professional staff in departments such as computer science, engineering, business, and the natural sciences. Administrative roles are less commonly sponsored unless they require a highly specialized degree.
How does the H-1B application process work at Texas State University?
Once a job offer is extended, the hiring department works with Texas State's Office of International Programs to prepare the H-1B petition. The university's legal team or an outside immigration attorney handles the I-129 filing with USCIS. The department must first obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the Department of Labor before the petition is submitted.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Texas State University?
Standard H-1B processing with USCIS currently takes several months. For roles tied to the October 1 cap-subject start date, the petition must be filed in April, meaning offer letters typically need to be finalized by late winter or early spring. Cap-exempt institutions like Texas State can file year-round, which provides more scheduling flexibility.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Texas State University as an international applicant?
Start by monitoring Texas State University's official careers portal for postings that explicitly mention visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate is a useful complement, as it aggregates roles from verified H-1B sponsors and lets you filter by employer, helping you confirm Texas State's sponsorship activity before applying. Prioritizing roles in research and faculty tracks will give you the strongest chance.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Texas State University?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
