Job Roles at University of North Texas
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in University of North Texas H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target Faculty and Research Roles First
University of North Texas most consistently sponsors H-1B visas for tenure-track faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and research scientists. These roles have the clearest sponsorship precedent, so prioritizing them improves your chances of finding a position that includes visa support.
Engage the Office of International Education Early
UNT's international education office coordinates visa sponsorship alongside HR. Reaching out early in the hiring process helps clarify sponsorship eligibility before an offer is extended, reducing delays and avoiding miscommunication about what the university will support.
Understand the H-1B Cap-Exempt Advantage
As a public university, UNT qualifies as a cap-exempt employer. That means H-1B petitions for qualifying roles can be filed year-round without waiting for the annual lottery, giving you more flexibility on start dates and reducing timing risk.
Align Your Application to a Specialty Occupation
H-1B approval at UNT depends on demonstrating the role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Academic and research positions typically meet this standard clearly, but staff and administrative roles may face more scrutiny from USCIS during the petition review.
Search for Open Roles With Verified Sponsorship History
Use Migrate Mate to find H-1B jobs at University of North Texas filtered by real sponsorship history. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can focus your applications on roles at institutions that have actually filed H-1B petitions before.
Time Your Application Around Academic Hiring Cycles
University hiring at UNT follows academic-year rhythms, with faculty searches typically opening in fall and staff roles posted year-round. Applying during peak hiring cycles means faster access to hiring managers who can initiate the sponsorship conversation earlier in the process.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of North Texas sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, University of North Texas sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying positions. UNT is a cap-exempt employer, meaning it can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery window. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, research, and technical staff roles where a specific degree requirement can be clearly established for the position.
Which roles and departments at University of North Texas are most likely to receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at UNT is most frequent in academic departments hiring tenure-track or visiting faculty, research centers employing scientists and postdoctoral fellows, and IT or technical units requiring specialized degree backgrounds. Administrative or generalist staff roles are less commonly sponsored, as establishing specialty occupation status for those positions can be more difficult.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at University of North Texas?
After receiving a job offer, UNT's HR team works with the Office of International Education and an immigration attorney to prepare the H-1B petition. You'll need to provide degree credentials, employment documentation, and details about your role. Because UNT is cap-exempt, the petition can be filed at any point in the year rather than during a specific filing window.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at University of North Texas?
Standard H-1B processing typically takes three to six months from filing to approval. UNT can request premium processing for faster adjudication if timing is critical, such as for a mid-semester start date. Cap-exempt status removes lottery wait time, so the main variable is USCIS processing speed and whether the agency issues a Request for Evidence.
How do I find H-1B jobs at University of North Texas?
Start by searching UNT's official careers portal for open faculty and research positions, then verify sponsorship history before applying. Migrate Mate is a useful resource here, as it lets you filter job opportunities specifically by H-1B sponsorship history, helping you confirm that UNT has actively filed petitions for similar roles in the past.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at University of North Texas?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
