Target academic and research roles first
High Point University's sponsorship activity is concentrated in faculty, research, and specialized professional positions. Focus your applications on roles that require discipline-specific credentials, as these are most likely to come with visa sponsorship support.
Understand which visa types HPU supports
High Point University sponsors H-1B, EB-2, EB-3, TN, and F-1 OPT extensions. If you're on OPT, look for roles that align with your field of study, HPU's hiring patterns suggest openness to transitioning OPT workers into long-term sponsorship.
Apply well ahead of the H-1B cap season
H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. Approach HPU hiring managers by January at the latest, university HR teams move deliberately, and early engagement gives you the best chance of being included in their cap-season filings.
Highlight your specialty occupation clearly
Universities face USCIS scrutiny on specialty occupation determinations. Frame your qualifications around the specific degree requirements of your role rather than general experience, and tailor your resume to match the job description precisely.
Connect with HPU's international faculty community
High Point University's campus has an established international presence. Reaching out to current international faculty or staff can give you insight into how the university handles sponsorship internally, and whether a department is actively hiring sponsored roles.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified HPU openings
Searching broadly for university jobs wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus specifically on High Point University roles that match your visa situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does High Point University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, High Point University sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent track record of doing so across multiple years. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, specialized staff, and professional roles that require a specific degree in a relevant field. If you're targeting an H-1B at HPU, apply early to give the HR team adequate time before the April filing deadline.
What visa types does High Point University sponsor?
High Point University sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for longer-term hires, TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT extensions for recent graduates. H-1B is by far the most frequently sponsored category, making it the primary pathway for most international applicants targeting HPU.
Which departments or roles at High Point University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at High Point University tends to be concentrated in academic departments, particularly faculty positions requiring specialized doctoral or master's-level credentials, as well as professional staff roles in areas like research, technology, and student affairs. Roles where the degree requirement is field-specific rather than general are the strongest candidates for H-1B sponsorship approval.
How do I time my application to High Point University if I need H-1B sponsorship?
The H-1B filing window opens April 1 for an October 1 start date, so HPU would need to file your petition in late March. That means you should be in active discussions with hiring managers by January and ideally have a verbal offer by February. University hiring moves on academic calendars, so watch for job postings in the fall and early spring semesters.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at High Point University?
The most reliable approach is to search on Migrate Mate, which aggregates jobs from verified sponsors and lets you filter specifically for High Point University openings alongside each role's sponsorship history. This saves you from applying to positions where sponsorship is uncertain, a common frustration when using general job platforms that don't verify sponsorship data.
