Align your credentials to LIU's academic standards
LIU typically expects graduate-level degrees for faculty and professional staff roles. Confirm your foreign degree is evaluated by a NACES-approved credential service before applying, since LIU hiring committees rely on these assessments to verify equivalency.
Target departments with active hiring cycles
LIU runs campuses in Brooklyn, Post, and online, each with separate hiring timelines. Search by campus and department to find where Education openings are concentrated, since sponsorship decisions are often made at the department level.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Education roles by visa type
Not every LIU posting signals sponsorship availability upfront. Migrate Mate lets you filter Education jobs at LIU specifically by visa category, so you avoid applying to roles that won't support your work authorization status.
Confirm LIU's E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
STEM OPT extensions require your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Verify LIU's enrollment status through the official E-Verify employer search before finalizing any offer, since enrollment is a federal requirement for that 24-month extension.
Understand TN eligibility for Education roles
Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Education roles, such as instructors or academic advisors with relevant degrees, may be eligible for TN status. DOL guidelines define the qualifying occupations, so confirm your role and degree field match before requesting TN sponsorship from LIU.

How do I plan my timeline when pursuing an H-1B sponsored role at Long Island University?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date, so if you're targeting a new H-1B, you need an offer in place well before the USCIS registration window opens in March.
