Focus on academic and research roles
Long Island University's sponsorship activity is concentrated in faculty, research, and specialized academic positions. Targeting roles in departments with active hiring cycles gives you the best chance of finding a position that qualifies for H-1B sponsorship.
Understand how universities handle LCA filing
As a university, LIU files Labor Condition Applications through standard academic hiring processes. Expect the timeline to align with the academic calendar, so applying well ahead of a department's semester start dates improves your chances significantly.
Highlight your specialty occupation credentials
LIU sponsors H-1B visas for roles requiring a specific degree in a defined field. Make sure your application clearly connects your academic background to the job's requirements, since specialty occupation standards are closely scrutinized in education sector petitions.
Target departments with consistent hiring patterns
Health sciences, business, pharmacy, and education programs are among LIU's most active academic areas. Researching which schools within LIU align with your background helps you apply to departments that regularly hire and sponsor international professionals.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsorship roles
Identifying which open positions at LIU are genuinely open to sponsorship can be difficult. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and see LIU's current listings alongside their track record.
Engage early if you're on OPT or CPT
LIU supports F-1 OPT and CPT, meaning some roles are already structured for international students. If you're approaching the end of your OPT period, engaging LIU's HR team early about H-1B transition timelines is especially important given USCIS filing deadlines.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Long Island University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Long Island University sponsors H-1B visas. LIU has a consistent track record of filing H-1B petitions, primarily for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. Sponsorship is most common in roles that clearly qualify as specialty occupations, meaning the position requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field.
What visa types does Long Island University sponsor?
Long Island University sponsors H-1B visas and supports F-1 students through both OPT and CPT arrangements. TN visa eligibility may also apply for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals in roles that meet TN occupation criteria. Green Card sponsorship is not a documented part of LIU's recent filing history, so you should clarify that directly with HR.
Which roles or departments at Long Island University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at LIU is most commonly associated with faculty and research positions in fields like health sciences, pharmacy, education, and business. Administrative roles with highly specialized skill requirements can also qualify. Positions that require a specific advanced degree are the strongest candidates for H-1B sponsorship under the specialty occupation standard.
How do I apply for a sponsored role at Long Island University?
Start by identifying open roles that align with your degree and field, then apply through LIU's official careers portal. During the interview process, ask directly about H-1B sponsorship availability for the specific role. Universities typically initiate the LCA and H-1B petition process after an offer is made, so understanding their internal HR timeline early helps you plan around USCIS deadlines.
How do I find current visa-sponsored job openings at Long Island University?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find LIU's open roles filtered by verified sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through generic listings, Migrate Mate shows you employers with a real track record of sponsoring international workers, so you can focus your effort on opportunities where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
