Align your credentials to LIU's specialty occupation standard
H-1B eligibility for Teaching roles requires your degree to directly correspond to the subject you'll teach. A master's or doctorate in your field strengthens the specialty occupation argument, especially for adjunct and lecturer positions where USCIS scrutinizes credential fit.
Target departments that hire year-round
LIU's health sciences, education, and business programs run adjunct and full-time searches outside the traditional academic calendar. Monitoring the careers portal for rolling postings, rather than waiting for fall hiring cycles, puts you in front of opportunities before departments finalize their rosters.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the offer stage
During the interview process, ask directly which HR office handles international faculty and whether LIU has sponsored this specific role type before. Confirming sponsorship intent early prevents late-stage delays after you've already accepted.
Find Teaching roles at LIU using Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter for open Teaching positions at Long Island University and see their visa sponsorship history by role type. That context helps you prioritize applications where sponsorship for your visa category is genuinely on the table.
Prepare your LCA documentation alongside your offer letter
LIU's HR and legal team must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Have your job title, worksite address, and start date confirmed in writing so the LCA filing doesn't stall waiting on administrative details.

Find Teaching at Long Island University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Long Island University sponsor H-1B visas for Teachings?
Yes, Long Island University sponsors H-1B visas for Teaching roles. The process requires LIU to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then an H-1B petition with USCIS on your behalf. Sponsorship decisions are made at the department and HR level, so confirming willingness during the offer stage is the most reliable way to proceed.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Long Island University?
Applications for Teaching roles at Long Island University go through the university's official careers portal, where postings are listed by campus and department. You can also find and browse open positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify roles where international candidates are actively considered before you invest time in a full application.
Which visa types does Long Island University commonly use for Teaching roles?
Long Island University sponsors H-1B visas for qualified Teaching professionals and also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing graduate programs. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Teaching occupations. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree level, and how the specific role is classified by LIU's HR and legal teams.
What qualifications does Long Island University expect for Teaching positions?
Most Teaching roles at LIU require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant subject area, with doctoral credentials expected for tenure-track and senior lecturer positions. For H-1B sponsorship purposes, your degree must correspond directly to the subject matter you'll teach. Adjunct positions in professional fields like nursing, business, or education may also credit substantial industry experience alongside formal academic credentials.
How do I time an H-1B filing for a Teaching role at Long Island University?
H-1B petitions are subject to an annual cap with a filing window that opens in April for an October 1 start date, though cap-exempt positions at qualifying educational institutions like LIU can be filed at any time. If LIU qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, your petition can be submitted year-round, which significantly reduces timeline pressure and lets start dates align with semester schedules rather than government deadlines.
