Align your credentials to U.S. faculty standards
Northeastern evaluates Teaching candidates against U.S. academic hiring norms, so have your foreign transcripts officially evaluated by a NACES-accredited service before applying. A credential evaluation that maps your degree to a U.S. equivalent removes friction early in the process.
Target roles that match your visa category
Northeastern sponsors J-1 visas for visiting scholars and H-1B petitions for longer-term faculty hires. Knowing which category fits your situation before you apply lets you ask informed questions during the offer stage and avoid accepting a role that leads to the wrong visa path.
Engage Northeastern's Office of Global Services early
Once you receive an offer, Northeastern's Office of Global Services handles the H-1B or PERM filing internally. Introduce yourself to that office before your start date so you understand their internal document deadlines, which often run weeks ahead of USCIS filing windows.
Prepare a teaching portfolio specific to your discipline
Northeastern's Teaching searches, especially for tenure-track and full-time lecturer roles, expect a teaching statement and course syllabi samples alongside a CV. Preparing discipline-specific portfolio materials before applications open puts you ahead of candidates who scramble after the posting closes.
Search open Teaching roles at Northeastern using Migrate Mate
Browse current Teaching openings at Northeastern filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, so you can quickly identify roles that match your visa eligibility and avoid wasting time on positions that don't offer sponsorship for your category.

Find Teaching at Northeastern University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Northeastern University sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, Northeastern University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Teaching positions, including faculty and full-time lecturer roles. The university's Office of Global Services manages petitions internally. Sponsorship is most common for roles requiring a specific degree and specialty occupation designation, so confirming eligibility with the hiring department during the offer stage is the right move.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at Northeastern University?
Applications for Teaching roles at Northeastern are submitted through the university's careers portal. Most faculty and lecturer postings require a CV, cover letter, teaching statement, and sample course materials. You can also browse open Teaching positions at Northeastern filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through the university's official site.
Which visa types does Northeastern University commonly use for Teaching positions?
Northeastern sponsors H-1B visas for longer-term Teaching roles such as tenure-track faculty and full-time lecturers. J-1 visas are commonly used for visiting scholars, exchange faculty, and short-term instructional appointments. F-1 OPT and CPT apply to graduate student instructors. For permanent roles, the university may support EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Northeastern University expect for Teaching roles?
Requirements vary by role and college, but tenure-track faculty positions typically require a terminal degree in the relevant field, a research record, and prior teaching experience. Full-time lecturer roles often prioritize teaching portfolio strength and industry expertise over research output. Foreign degrees should be evaluated by a NACES-accredited credential evaluation service to confirm U.S. equivalency before you apply.
How do I time my Teaching job search around the H-1B visa process?
If you're currently on F-1 OPT, Northeastern must file your H-1B cap-subject petition with USCIS by April 1 for an October 1 work start. That means your offer, I-129 preparation, and document submission all need to happen in the first quarter of the year. Coordinating your job search to align with that window, ideally landing an offer by January or February, avoids a work authorization gap.
