How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Northeastern University Visa Sponsorship USA
Target roles in research and academic departments
Northeastern's strongest sponsorship activity tends to cluster in research, engineering, and computer science departments. Faculty, postdoctoral, and research scientist roles are the most likely to come with H-1B or Green Card support built into the hiring process.
Ask about Green Card sponsorship during the offer stage
Northeastern has a track record of sponsoring both H-1B and permanent residence. If you're interviewing for a long-term academic or research position, it's reasonable to ask HR whether the role typically includes Green Card sponsorship as part of the employment package.
Check for TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Northeastern sponsors TN visas for qualifying roles, which is a faster and less burdensome path than H-1B. Canadian and Mexican nationals in STEM, engineering, or scientific fields should confirm whether their role qualifies under TN occupation categories before applying.
Filter for verified sponsors before applying
Not every university role includes sponsorship, administrative and part-time positions often don't. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus your effort on roles at Northeastern that are genuinely open to visa applicants.
Align your application with Northeastern's January and August hiring cycles
Academic institutions like Northeastern tend to post faculty and research positions around semester transitions. Timing your application for early spring or early summer puts you ahead of hiring cycles and allows more lead time for H-1B or J-1 processing before a start date.

Does Northeastern University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Northeastern University sponsors H-1B visas. It is an active sponsor, particularly for roles in research, engineering, computer science, and academic faculty positions. As a university, Northeastern is a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning it can file H-1B petitions at any time of year without being subject to the annual lottery.
What visa types does Northeastern University sponsor?
Northeastern University sponsors a range of visa types including H-1B, TN, J-1, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students. It also sponsors permanent residence through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for longer-term academic and research staff. The specific visa offered depends on the role, department, and the candidate's nationality and qualifications.
Which roles at Northeastern University are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Faculty positions, postdoctoral researchers, research scientists, and specialized professional staff in STEM-related departments are the most common sponsored roles at Northeastern. Administrative, part-time, or hourly positions are much less likely to include sponsorship. Roles tied to externally funded research grants tend to have the most flexibility for sponsoring international hires.
How do I find visa-sponsored job openings at Northeastern University?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find roles at Northeastern University that come with verified sponsorship history. You can filter by employer and visa type to surface positions where Northeastern has an active track record of sponsoring candidates, saving time compared to manually reviewing postings that may not disclose sponsorship upfront.
How do I approach the application process at Northeastern University as an international candidate?
Apply through Northeastern's official careers portal and clearly indicate your visa status and sponsorship needs in your application. If you reach the interview stage, ask the hiring department directly whether the role is eligible for sponsorship before the offer stage. Because Northeastern is cap-exempt for H-1B, timing is more flexible than with private-sector employers, but early engagement still helps avoid delays.
