Align your credentials to U.S. CPA standards
Robert Half's Tax Accountant roles consistently require CPA licensure or active candidacy. If your accounting credentials are from outside the U.S., get a formal equivalency evaluation before applying so hiring managers can assess your qualifications without ambiguity.
Target Robert Half's direct-hire postings specifically
Robert Half operates both contract and direct-hire divisions. Visa sponsorship, particularly E-3 and TN, is far more likely through direct-hire placements than short-term contract roles, so filter your search to permanent or direct-hire Tax Accountant openings.
Search sponsor-verified Tax Accountant openings on Migrate Mate
Not every Robert Half posting explicitly flags visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to surface Tax Accountant roles at Robert Half that have confirmed sponsorship history, so you're applying where support is already established rather than guessing.
Raise your visa type early in recruiter conversations
Robert Half recruiters match candidates to client engagements, so your work authorization status affects which clients they can pitch you to. Disclose your visa type in the first conversation to avoid being progressed toward clients who won't sponsor.
Understand how LCA filing fits the tax busy season
DOL Labor Condition Application certification typically takes seven business days. If your start date falls near January through April, flag this with your Robert Half contact early so the employer-side filing doesn't collide with peak tax season staffing pressure.
Prepare client-facing tax experience examples before interviews
Robert Half places Tax Accountants with clients ranging from mid-market private firms to public companies. Interviewers assess whether you can adapt quickly across engagements, so prepare specific examples covering federal and state compliance work, not just internal corporate tax experience.

Find Tax Accountant at Robert Half JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Robert Half sponsor H-1B visas for Tax Accountants?
Robert Half's sponsorship activity for Tax Accountants is more concentrated in E-3 and TN categories than H-1B. The H-1B lottery and its annual cap make it a less common pathway through a staffing firm, since sponsorship costs and timelines are harder to absorb across client-driven placements. Candidates with cap-exempt or already-approved H-1B status have more flexibility.
Which visa types does Robert Half commonly sponsor for Tax Accountant roles?
For Tax Accountant roles, Robert Half has sponsored E-3 visas for Australian citizens, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates completing U.S. degrees. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is possible for direct-hire placements where the role meets permanent employment criteria under PERM labor certification requirements.
How do I apply for Tax Accountant jobs at Robert Half?
Applications go through Robert Half's website or directly via Migrate Mate, where you can browse Tax Accountant openings with confirmed sponsorship history. Once you apply, a Robert Half recruiter typically screens your experience and work authorization status before matching you to active client openings. Disclosing your visa type upfront helps recruiters route you to sponsor-willing engagements faster.
What qualifications does Robert Half expect for Tax Accountant roles?
Most Tax Accountant openings at Robert Half require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field, with CPA licensure or active candidacy strongly preferred. Employers accessed through Robert Half typically want experience with federal and state income tax compliance, proficiency in tax software such as Thomson Reuters or CCH, and ideally exposure to multi-entity or consolidated return preparation.
How do I time my application around visa processing if I'm on F-1 OPT?
F-1 OPT gives you up to 12 months of work authorization after graduation, with a 24-month STEM extension available for qualifying accounting and finance degrees. If your OPT expires before a permanent visa is approved, there's a 60-day grace period. Starting your Robert Half application at least three to four months before your OPT end date gives enough runway for DOL and USCIS processing without a gap in authorization.
