Align Your Credentials to U.S. Tax Standards
CPA licensure or active CPA candidacy carries significant weight in KPMG's Tax practice. If your accounting credentials are from outside the U.S., verify their equivalency with NASBA before applying so hiring managers can quickly assess your eligibility.
Target Service Lines That Match Your Background
KPMG's Tax practice spans Federal Tax, International Tax, State and Local Tax, and M&A Tax. Applying to the specific service line that matches your prior experience sharpens your application and signals to sponsors that your role is narrowly defined, which supports the specialty occupation determination.
Apply Through Campus Recruiting for Entry-Level Roles
KPMG fills a large share of its Tax Accountant pipeline through its campus recruiting program. Recruiting timelines open well before graduation, so if you're on OPT, apply in the fall semester preceding your final spring to maximize time before your status requires H-1B sponsorship.
Clarify Sponsorship Eligibility Before Final Interviews
KPMG's HR and talent acquisition teams handle sponsorship decisions, not individual partners. Raise your visa status directly with the recruiter during the offer stage, not during partner interviews, to avoid delays when the offer is extended and the firm begins its internal approval process.
Understand How KPMG Files the LCA for Tax Roles
For H-1B and E-3 petitions, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. KPMG operates across many metro markets, so the LCA wage floor will reflect the specific office where you're placed.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Tax Accountant Roles
Searching broadly for sponsoring employers in accounting wastes time. Use Migrate Mate to filter Tax Accountant openings at KPMG by visa type, so you're only applying to roles where your sponsorship pathway is already confirmed and active.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does KPMG sponsor H-1B visas for Tax Accountants?
Yes, KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for Tax Accountant roles. Tax positions at KPMG generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field. Sponsorship decisions are managed through KPMG's internal HR and immigration team, and the process typically begins after a formal offer is extended.
How do I apply for Tax Accountant jobs at KPMG?
Applications are submitted through KPMG's careers portal, where roles are listed by service line and location. For the most targeted search, use Migrate Mate to browse Tax Accountant openings at KPMG that are open to visa sponsorship, then apply directly through the official channel. Campus recruits should watch for fall recruiting events tied to their university's accounting program.
Which visa types does KPMG commonly use for Tax Accountants?
KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for the broadest range of international candidates, as well as E-3 visas for Australian citizens in qualifying Tax Accountant roles. For longer-term employment pathways, KPMG also supports Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, typically after an employee has established a track record in the firm's Tax practice.
What qualifications does KPMG expect from Tax Accountant candidates?
KPMG typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field for Tax Accountant roles, with a master's in taxation viewed favorably for mid-level positions. Active CPA candidacy is a common expectation, and CPA licensure is often required for advancement. Prior internship experience in public accounting or a Big Four environment strengthens an application considerably.
How do I plan around the H-1B lottery timeline when targeting KPMG?
The H-1B cap lottery registration typically opens in March, with selections announced shortly after and petitions filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, accept a KPMG offer early enough for the firm to register you in the lottery. If you're not selected, ask your recruiter whether cap-exempt alternatives or a second lottery attempt are options KPMG can support.
