Overview
The Sales Commission Analyst plays a pivotal role supporting our Street and Block sales teams by bridging the gap between quantitative financial analysis and high-touch customer support. Serving as the primary analyst for sales compensation, you will leverage SQL and Tableau to build complex reports, model internal "what-if" incentive scenarios, and evaluate whether current comp plans are successfully driving business goals. Equal parts data expert and empathetic communicator, you will manage pay inquiries, navigate complex plan nuances, and de-escalate sensitive compensation questions with high EQ. While starting with a mix of process-driven support and analytical operations, this role will quickly evolve into a fully strategic analyst position. If you are passionate about data-driven decision-making, financial forecasting, and supporting a fast-paced sales environment, this is an exceptional opportunity to make a direct impact.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary analyst for sales compensation, querying large data sets using SQL and building interactive reports in Tableau.
- Manage and resolve incentive pay inquiries from sales reps with exceptional customer service, high EQ, and clear, data-backed communication.
- Perform "what-if" scenario modeling and forecasting to ensure compensation structures drive intended sales behaviors and performance metrics.
- Research, interpret, and operationalize complex, evolving compensation plans and legal documentation (updating on average up to 1x per year).
- Navigate gray areas in compensation disputes by synthesizing context, reviewing documentation, and delivering fair, data-driven resolutions.
- Partner with revenue and finance leadership to refine existing comp processes (~30% of the role is process management and optimization).
- Continuously evaluate data workflows to automate recurring reporting and improve calculation efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a quantitative field.
- 2–4 years of post-grad work experience in finance, compensation, or financial analytics, with a strong customer service or support background.
- Proficiency in SQL for querying, data manipulation, and extraction (Primary Analyst capability required).
- Demonstrated experience building, maintaining, and analyzing reports in Tableau.
- High Emotional Intelligence (EQ) with proven ability to de-escalate sensitive, pay-related inquiries while maintaining trust and transparency.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply rules from complex compensation plan documents.
- Experience in sales forecasting, incentive modeling, or "what-if" scenario planning.
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to work through ambiguous, "gray area" situations.
- Experience supporting sales organizations is required; solar industry background is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in using modern AI tools to optimize analysis workflows, or a growth mindset to adopt emerging automation technologies.

Frame your solar sales experience clearly
Sunrun's Sales roles focus on residential solar consultations, not traditional retail or SaaS sales. Tailor your resume to highlight in-home or field sales experience, customer acquisition in high-ticket markets, or energy sector exposure before you apply.
Target territories with active hiring
Sunrun expands Sales headcount market by market as they enter new states. Search their open roles by location and prioritize markets where they're actively scaling, since those hiring managers are more likely to move quickly through the sponsorship conversation.
Confirm OPT authorization covers your start date
If you're on F-1 OPT, your work authorization has a fixed end date. Verify your OPT period aligns with Sunrun's onboarding timeline before accepting an offer, since Sales roles often have rolling start dates tied to regional cohort training schedules.
Understand the H-1B filing window early
H-1B petitions for October 1 start dates must be filed with USCIS in April. If Sunrun extends an offer in late spring or summer, you'll need to plan for a cap-gap period or negotiate a conditional start date tied to the next registration cycle.
Ask HR directly about sponsorship at offer stage
Sunrun sponsors multiple visa types for Sales positions. When you receive an offer, ask the recruiter specifically which visa category they intend to file and whether they use premium processing, so you can plan your authorization timeline without ambiguity.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Sales roles
Sunrun posts Sales positions across multiple markets, and availability shifts frequently. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Sunrun Sales openings that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sunrun sponsor H-1B visas for Sales roles?
Yes, Sunrun has a consistent record of sponsoring H-1B visas, including for Sales positions. If you receive an offer, the company works with immigration counsel to file the H-1B petition with USCIS. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, your start date will depend on where you are in the registration cycle when you receive your offer.
How do I apply for Sales jobs at Sunrun?
You can find Sunrun's open Sales positions on their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles open to visa sponsorship. Sunrun typically hires Sales reps by territory, so search by the market you're targeting. Expect a multi-stage interview process that includes a role-play or pitch simulation before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Sunrun sponsor for Sales positions?
Sunrun sponsors H-1B, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Sales roles, and has also filed employment-based Green Card petitions through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional roles. OPT and CPT are typically used for early-career hires before transitioning to an employer-sponsored category.
What qualifications does Sunrun look for in Sales candidates who need sponsorship?
Sunrun's Sales roles generally require a bachelor's degree and direct sales experience, preferably in residential, field, or high-ticket consumer markets. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the degree requirement is a genuine job prerequisite, not a preference. Candidates with a background in energy, construction, or real estate are well-positioned for these roles.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Sunrun Sales offer?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B standard processing through USCIS takes three to six months after filing, though premium processing can reduce that to around 15 business days. TN status for Canadian nationals can often be obtained at the port of entry on the day you start. OPT authorization is already in place, so no additional filing is required before your start date.
