Frame your sales background around solar adoption
Sunrun's Sales Representatives focus on residential solar consultations, not traditional B2B pipelines. Reframe your resume to highlight customer acquisition, consultative selling, and closing in high-consideration purchases before you apply.
Verify your OPT timeline against Sunrun's ramp period
Sunrun's sales roles include a paid training period before you're fully ramped. If you have fewer than six months of OPT remaining when you start, your H-1B petition may need to be filed immediately. Confirm your I-94 end date before accepting an offer.
Ask the recruiter which entity will file your petition
Sunrun operates across multiple legal entities and markets. Confirm which employing entity sponsors your visa, since the LCA filed with DOL must match the entity on your offer letter and the USCIS petition exactly.
Target markets with active residential solar demand
Sunrun's Sales Representative openings cluster in states with strong solar incentive programs. Applying to roles in high-activity markets increases your chances of landing an offer quickly, which matters when your OPT or grace period clock is running.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Sunrun consistently posts Sales Representative openings, but availability shifts by region and season. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by the visa types Sunrun sponsors, so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Request the PERM timeline upfront if you need a Green Card
If you're targeting long-term permanent residence, ask Sunrun's HR team early whether they support EB-2 or EB-3 PERM filings for Sales Representatives. PERM labor certification can take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 is even filed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sunrun sponsor H-1B visas for Sales Representatives?
Yes, Sunrun has an established record of sponsoring H-1B visas for Sales Representatives. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation when the position requires a relevant bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Your offer letter and the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL must reflect the correct employing entity and prevailing wage for your work location.
Which visa types does Sunrun commonly use for Sales Representative roles?
Sunrun sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visas for Sales Representatives, as well as immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates entering a first sales role, while H-1B is the standard long-term path. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories.
What qualifications does Sunrun expect for Sales Representative roles?
Sunrun's Sales Representative positions generally favor candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or a related field, combined with direct sales or customer acquisition experience. Experience in residential services, real estate, or energy is a strong differentiator. The consultative nature of solar sales means Sunrun typically screens for relationship-building skills alongside product knowledge.
How do I apply for Sales Representative jobs at Sunrun?
You can browse and apply for Sales Representative openings at Sunrun through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. When you apply directly, tailor your resume to highlight residential sales experience and any background in sustainability or home services. Sunrun's recruiting process typically includes a phone screen followed by a structured interview.
How do I time my application to Sunrun around my visa status?
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply at least three to four months before your OPT expires to allow time for H-1B cap registration in the April lottery. USCIS requires H-1B petitions to be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you miss the lottery, Sunrun's support for cap-exempt filings or bridge options like OPT extensions depends on your specific situation and degree field.
