Certify Your Credentials for Field Operations
Midstream operators often require safety certifications like OSHA 10 or 30 and process safety management familiarity. Have these documented before applying so Targa's hiring team sees you as field-ready, not a training liability.
Target Roles Tied to Specific Assets
Targa operates gathering systems, processing facilities, and fractionation plants across the Permian and other basins. Applying to roles tied to a specific asset type you have direct experience with strengthens your case for sponsorship over a generalist candidate.
Clarify Your OPT or TN Status Early
If you're on F-1 OPT, your 60-day unemployment limit is unforgiving in operations hiring, which can move slowly. Flag your authorization window and end date during the recruiter screen so the team can sequence interviews and offers realistically.
Understand the LCA Filing Step
Before Targa can file your H-1B petition with USCIS, they must certify a Labor Condition Application with DOL confirming your role meets prevailing wage requirements. Knowing this step exists helps you ask informed questions about where the process stands.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles
Operations openings at energy companies like Targa often require active sponsorship willingness that isn't obvious from a standard job board. Use Migrate Mate to identify and track Targa's operations listings filtered for visa sponsorship so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Align Your Application Timing with H-1B Cap Cycles
If you need H-1B sponsorship and aren't already cap-exempt, USCIS registration opens in March and work can't begin until October 1 at the earliest. Targeting Targa roles in Q4 or Q1 gives you the lead time to align an offer with the next registration window.

Find Operations at Targa Resources JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Targa Resources sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes, Targa Resources has sponsored H-1B visas for operations-related positions. Sponsorship in this function tends to be reserved for roles requiring specialized technical expertise in midstream infrastructure, such as process engineering or instrumentation. Your strongest path is applying to roles where your background maps directly to a specific asset or operational discipline Targa runs.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at Targa Resources?
Applications go through Targa's careers page, where roles are listed by location and function. For visa-dependent candidates, use Migrate Mate to filter Targa's open Operations positions by sponsorship eligibility before applying, so you avoid roles where international hiring is unlikely. Tailor your application to the specific asset type or operational function listed in the job description.
Which visa types are commonly used for Operations roles at Targa Resources?
Targa has sponsored H-1B visas for technical operations roles and has also hired candidates on F-1 OPT and CPT, typically students transitioning out of engineering programs into field or process roles. TN classification is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree field, and the specific role's duties.
What qualifications does Targa Resources look for in Operations candidates?
Targa's operations roles typically require a background in chemical, mechanical, or petroleum engineering, or direct field experience in midstream or upstream facilities. Familiarity with process safety management, SCADA systems, or compression and separation equipment strengthens your profile. Roles closer to the field may prioritize hands-on plant experience over academic credentials alone.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process typically take for Operations roles?
From offer to work authorization, timing depends heavily on your current visa status. If you're moving from F-1 OPT to H-1B, you're working within USCIS's annual cap cycle, with registration in March and an October 1 start date. TN and H-1B transfers for those already in status can move faster. Build in at least three to four months for the full process after an offer is extended.
