Tailor your resume to project coordination language
Tetra Tech's Program Assistant postings emphasize deliverable tracking, stakeholder coordination, and contract compliance support. Frame your experience around those functions, not general administrative work. Consultancies screen for candidates who can slot into active project teams quickly.
Target postings tied to federal contracts
Many of Tetra Tech's Program Assistant openings support USAID, EPA, or DoD programs. These federally funded roles carry compliance obligations that make sponsorship more straightforward, since Tetra Tech already operates within structured hiring and E-Verify frameworks on those contracts.
Get your credential equivalency documented early
If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a foreign credential evaluation before interviews start. For H-1B petitions, USCIS will scrutinize whether your background aligns with the specific Program Assistant duties, and Tetra Tech's legal team will need that documentation upfront.
Ask about sponsorship timeline before accepting an offer
H-1B cap-subject filings open in March for an October start, so if you're offered a role in summer, clarify whether Tetra Tech will bridge your status or use cap-exempt routes. Misaligned timelines are the most common reason offers fall through in consulting.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Program Assistant roles
Tetra Tech posts Program Assistant positions across multiple offices and practice areas. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Tetra Tech roles that align with your visa type, so you're not applying blind to positions that may not have active sponsorship budget.
Leverage OPT or CPT to build internal visibility first
If you're on an F-1 visa, joining Tetra Tech under OPT or CPT on a program support contract gives you time to demonstrate project value before H-1B sponsorship discussions begin. Internal referrals from project managers carry significant weight in consulting hiring cycles.

Find Program Assistant at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Program Assistants?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Program Assistant roles. Sponsorship tends to be more consistent on contracts tied to federal clients, where Tetra Tech operates within structured compliance frameworks. Your degree and the specific duties in the job description need to align clearly for USCIS to approve the specialty occupation classification for a program support position.
How do I apply for Program Assistant jobs at Tetra Tech?
Applications go through Tetra Tech's careers portal, where postings are organized by practice area and location. Before applying, review the contract or client sector listed in the posting since sponsorship availability can vary by business unit. You can also browse open Program Assistant positions at Tetra Tech filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate to narrow your search efficiently.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Program Assistant roles?
Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for program support staff. F-1 OPT is a common entry point for recent graduates entering program coordination roles. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. J-1 is used in specific exchange or development program contexts depending on the client contract.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Program Assistant positions?
Most postings require a bachelor's degree in a field related to the contract focus, such as environmental science, international development, public administration, or engineering. Practical experience with project tracking tools, grant or contract compliance, and technical report writing is consistently valued. Fluency in a second language is an asset on USAID and international development contracts specifically.
How does the sponsorship timeline work for H-1B filing if I receive an offer?
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, USCIS registration opens in March and the earliest work start date is October 1. Tetra Tech will need several weeks before the March window to prepare your petition. If you're already on OPT, a timely cap-gap extension through USCIS can bridge your work authorization while the H-1B petition is pending approval.
