Align Your Credentials With Touro's Academic Standards
Touro's Instructor roles span health sciences, Jewish studies, law, and education. Make sure your transcripts and any foreign degree evaluations reflect the specific discipline you're applying to teach, since USCIS scrutinizes degree-field alignment for specialty occupation determinations.
Target Departments With Recurring Faculty Openings
Touro hires Instructors across multiple campuses, including New York, California, and Nevada. Search by campus and department rather than applying broadly. Roles in health professions programs tend to open on academic hiring cycles, so timing your application to fall postings improves your chances.
Clarify Sponsorship Eligibility Before Accepting an Offer
Before signing an offer letter, confirm in writing which visa types Touro will support for your specific role. Universities sometimes sponsor H-1B for tenure-track faculty but restrict it for adjunct or part-time Instructor positions, so getting clarity early avoids wasted time during the filing process.
Understand How J-1 Affects Your Long-Term Plans
If Touro initially sponsors you on a J-1 exchange visitor visa, check whether your program carries a two-year home residency requirement. That requirement blocks H-1B and Green Card filings until it's fulfilled or waived through a DOL-approved Conrad 30 waiver or other qualifying pathway.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Instructor Roles
Filtering for education employers with a documented H-1B and EB sponsorship history saves you from applying to institutions that won't file. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Instructor openings at Touro University and identify which campus locations are actively hiring international candidates.
Plan Around USCIS Cap Deadlines if You're on OPT
If you're finishing a U.S. degree and relying on F-1 OPT to start teaching at Touro, confirm your OPT expiration against the H-1B cap-subject filing window. USCIS only accepts H-1B petitions starting April 1, with an October 1 start date, so a late hiring decision can leave a gap in your work authorization.

Find Instructor at Touro University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Touro University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Touro University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor positions. As an educational institution, Touro qualifies as a cap-exempt employer for H-1B filings, meaning petitions can be submitted at any time of year rather than waiting for the annual April lottery window. This gives international candidates more scheduling flexibility when transitioning into a full-time teaching role.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Touro University?
Applications for Instructor roles at Touro University are submitted through the university's careers portal. Each posting lists the specific campus, department, and required qualifications. Tailor your application materials to the academic discipline and degree level of the program you're applying to teach. You can also browse verified Instructor openings at Touro with visa sponsorship history on Migrate Mate before applying directly.
Which visa types does Touro University commonly use for Instructor roles?
Touro University sponsors a range of visa types for Instructor positions, including H-1B for specialty occupation roles, J-1 for exchange visitor faculty, and TN for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals. Candidates already on F-1 OPT or CPT can also begin employment while a longer-term petition is filed. For permanent residency, Touro has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions for faculty roles.
What qualifications does Touro University expect for Instructor positions?
Requirements vary by department, but most Instructor roles at Touro expect at minimum a master's degree in the relevant field, with a doctorate preferred for graduate-level teaching. Health sciences and clinical programs often require active professional licensure alongside academic credentials. For H-1B sponsorship, your degree must align closely with the subject matter of the courses you'll teach, which USCIS evaluates as part of the specialty occupation determination.
How do I estimate the timeline for Touro University to file my work visa?
For H-1B filings, cap-exempt institutions like Touro can file year-round, so processing begins once your offer is finalized and the Labor Condition Application is certified by the DOL, which typically takes seven business days. Standard USCIS adjudication runs three to five months. Premium processing reduces that to 15 business days for an additional fee. Build at least four to six months of lead time between your offer date and intended start date to avoid gaps.
