Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
For a Professor role, your degree must directly match the subject you'll teach. A doctorate in a related but distinct discipline can draw USCIS scrutiny, so prepare a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying.
Target departments with active faculty searches
Touro's colleges in health sciences, osteopathic medicine, and pharmacy regularly post open faculty lines. Focus your outreach on department chairs in those programs, where international hires are common and sponsorship pathways are more familiar to hiring staff.
Clarify J-1 two-year home residency early
If you've held a J-1 exchange visitor visa in a research or teaching capacity, confirm whether you're subject to the two-year home residency requirement before accepting an offer. This affects H-1B eligibility and the timeline Touro's HR team will need to plan around.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Professor roles
Filtering for visa-sponsoring academic employers can be time-consuming. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Professor openings at Touro University and similar institutions that have demonstrated sponsorship activity for faculty roles.
Understand how PERM fits a long-term faculty track
If your goal is permanent residence through an EB-2 or EB-3 petition, Touro must conduct a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Faculty at universities can sometimes bypass PERM under the Schedule A shortage category, so ask HR whether your role qualifies.
Negotiate start dates around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS only accepts petitions in April for an October 1 start. Work backward from that window when discussing your offer letter and proposed start date with Touro's human resources office.

Find Professor at Touro University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Touro University sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes, Touro University sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles. Faculty positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the teaching discipline. Touro's HR and legal teams handle the I-129 petition process, including the required Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before submission.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at Touro University?
Open Professor positions at Touro University are posted through its institutional careers portal, organized by college or campus. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse verified Professor openings at Touro and filter for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. When applying, tailor your cover letter and CV to the specific department and degree program, not just the institution broadly.
Which visa types does Touro University use for Professor roles?
Touro University uses several visa pathways for faculty. H-1B is the most common for full-time Professor roles. J-1 is frequently used for visiting or exchange faculty appointments. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose discipline appears on the USMCA qualifying occupations list. For longer-term faculty, Touro also supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant petitions, which lead to a Green Card.
What qualifications does Touro University expect for Professor positions?
Most Professor roles at Touro require a terminal degree in the relevant field, which is typically a Ph.D., Psy.D., J.D., M.D., or D.O. depending on the college. Clinical faculty positions in health sciences programs often require active licensure in addition to a graduate degree. Prior teaching experience and a record of scholarship or professional practice strengthen your candidacy, particularly at the assistant or associate professor level.
How do I plan the timeline for visa sponsorship at a university like Touro?
For an H-1B, plan at least six months between your offer acceptance and your intended start date to allow time for LCA certification through DOL and I-129 petition preparation. If Touro intends to sponsor you for a Green Card via PERM, the full process through DOL and USCIS typically spans one to three years. Coordinate start dates with HR well before accepting your offer so filing windows align with your planned transition.
