Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
Trinity Health requires ECFMG certification for international medical graduates before credentialing begins. Get this in order early because hospital credentialing committees won't advance your application without it, and delays here can push your start date back by months.
Target underserved or rural Trinity Health sites
Trinity Health operates facilities in health professional shortage areas, which makes physicians eligible for J-1 waiver programs through state health departments or HRSA. Applying to these sites strengthens your case and opens a sponsorship pathway that bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely.
Ask about the PERM timeline during the offer stage
If you're pursuing a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, ask Trinity Health's in-house immigration team when PERM recruitment will begin. Starting that conversation before you sign gives you a realistic picture of your permanent residency timeline from day one.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Trinity Health family medicine roles
Trinity Health posts Family Medicine Physician openings across multiple states and systems. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Trinity Health roles that list visa sponsorship, so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Confirm your state medical license aligns with the posting location
Trinity Health operates across more than a dozen states, and your H-1B petition is site-specific. Starting the state licensure process for the exact posting location before your offer is finalized prevents filing delays, since USCIS requires a valid license or eligibility confirmation in the petition.
Understand how TN status applies to your specific situation
If you're a Canadian or Mexican citizen, Trinity Health can sponsor a TN visa for physicians, which processes faster than H-1B and has no annual cap. Confirm with the recruiter that the role qualifies under the physician TN category, since not all clinical positions meet the DOL's definition.

Does Trinity Health sponsor H-1B visas for Family Medicine Physicians?
Yes, Trinity Health sponsors H-1B visas for Family Medicine Physicians. As a large health system, Trinity Health qualifies as an H-1B employer and works with immigration counsel to file petitions for qualified international physicians. If you're subject to the H-1B lottery, your sponsoring site may also qualify as a cap-exempt institution, so ask the recruiter to clarify that during the offer stage.
How do I apply for Family Medicine Physician jobs at Trinity Health?
You can apply directly through Trinity Health's careers portal or browse open roles on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions where visa sponsorship is listed. When applying, make sure your CV includes your medical school, ECFMG status, residency training, and board certification status. Recruiters at Trinity Health typically screen for these credentials before advancing candidates to the interview stage.
Which visa types does Trinity Health commonly use for Family Medicine Physicians?
Trinity Health commonly sponsors H-1B, J-1, TN, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Family Medicine Physicians. J-1 waivers are particularly common for physicians placed at underserved facilities. Canadian and Mexican physicians often pursue TN status as a faster alternative to H-1B. The right visa depends on your nationality, training background, and the specific practice location.
What qualifications does Trinity Health expect for Family Medicine Physician roles?
Trinity Health expects candidates to hold a medical degree from an accredited institution, ECFMG certification if you trained outside the United States, completion of a U.S.-accredited family medicine residency, and board certification or active board eligibility. Active licensure in the state where the position is located is also required. Some sites may require prior experience in a primary care or outpatient setting.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Trinity Health Family Medicine role?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. H-1B standard processing runs three to six months, while premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to about 15 business days. J-1 waiver approval through a state agency or HRSA can take three to six months before the H-1B petition even begins. Starting conversations with Trinity Health's immigration team as early as possible in the offer process helps avoid gaps in your authorization.
