ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The general duties associated with this position can include but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting aircraft maintenance personnel in the maintenance and repair of training fleet aircraft.
- Performing routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to the aircraft mechanic(s); lifting and holding materials in place during operation/installation; inflating tires, cleaning aircraft interior/exterior, etc.
- Assembling and/or disassembling machines, equipment, components, and parts.
- Cleaning and/or lubricating machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work area, and power tools.
- Performing general shop clean up and other duties as assigned.
To thrive in this role, the applicant will have knowledge of and experience using machines and tools used in the maintenance of general aviation aircraft, as well as the ability to understand and retain information provided verbally and/or in writing, and the ability to work cohesively as part of a team with multi-level guidance.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 to 6 months of dependable work history
- To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment;
or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters;
and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs or their designee.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to those with mechanical aptitude and familiarity with aviation ground operations with at least 6 months experience helping aircraft mechanics maintain and repair vehicles, machinery and electrical equipment, as well as those currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited Aviation Maintenance Program for Airframe and Powerplant Certification.

This position is located on the Aviation Technology Complex at Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage, AK. This is a student employee position. Pay is $25.00/hour.
