INTRODUCTION
This position is an Academic Advising Center Internal Hire Only.
The Assistant Director will oversee continuous training for assigned professional advisors to ensure Jennifer Bloom’s Appreciative Advising model is being practiced. They will ensure that their assigned professional advisors are focused on the advising activities that are required throughout the year, as well as setting goals for future semesters. Additionally, the Assistant Director will serve as a mentor and coach, and follow up with their assigned professional advisors to ensure all advisors have been trained and are mastering this advising model and are achieving their goals.
The Assistant Director will keep their advising loads but will have extra responsibilities to regularly meet and mentor/coach every advisor who is assigned to them to help them grow and excel as a professional advisor.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director will help advisors develop their leadership skills by:
- Researching professional development opportunities at least once a semester for all professional advisors to be presented during our weekly meeting.
- Understanding their network and stakeholders, and how to communicate with them
- Having a deeper knowledge of their major(s) beyond the checklist
- Implementing and researching NACADA CORE values, principles, and best practices
- Collaborating with faculty/offices/students positively
- Having meaningful and purpose-driven conversations to help our students
- Having care and empathy for our students and one another
- Information sharing with partners and peers
- Continually honing advising skills and keeping up to date with trends and best practices in the profession by attending NACADA conferences when funds allow.
