Align your credentials to U.S. academic standards
Foreign degrees need to be evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before University of Delaware's hiring committees will assess your application. A course-by-course evaluation, not just a document equivalency letter, carries more weight for faculty Teaching roles.
Target department-level job postings directly
University of Delaware posts Teaching vacancies through individual colleges and departments, not just a central jobs board. Searching by department, such as the College of Arts and Sciences or College of Education, surfaces roles that broader searches miss and signals where active hiring is concentrated.
Understand which visa fits your Teaching appointment
J-1 scholar status is common for postdoctoral and visiting faculty appointments, while tenure-track and continuing Teaching roles typically lead to H-1B sponsorship. Knowing which appointment type you're applying for tells you which visa pathway will apply before you reach the offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Teaching roles by sponsorship
Browsing every university job board individually is slow. Migrate Mate lets you filter Teaching positions at University of Delaware specifically by visa sponsorship type, so you can focus applications on roles where your authorization needs are already accommodated.
Ask about PERM timelines during offer negotiations
For Teaching roles on a path to permanent residence, PERM labor certification through DOL can take a year or more before an EB-2 or EB-3 petition is filed with USCIS. Raising this timeline with your department coordinator at the offer stage helps align expectations before your H-1B clock becomes a pressure point.
Extend OPT strategically if you hold STEM-adjacent Teaching fields
F-1 OPT holders in qualifying STEM disciplines may be eligible for a 24-month OPT extension, giving you a longer runway to secure H-1B sponsorship through University of Delaware's annual cap-subject filing cycle, which follows the April 1 USCIS filing window.

Find Teaching at University of Delaware JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Delaware sponsor H-1B visas for Teaching roles?
Yes, University of Delaware sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Teaching positions, particularly tenure-track and continuing faculty roles that meet the specialty occupation standard. The university's international employment office manages the petition process in coordination with your hiring department. Cap-subject H-1B petitions follow USCIS's April 1 filing window, so offer timing relative to that date matters.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching positions at University of Delaware?
H-1B is the primary work visa for longer-term Teaching appointments. J-1 is frequently used for visiting scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and short-term instructional roles. F-1 OPT and CPT support students transitioning into Teaching or research assistant roles. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Teaching disciplines. For permanent positions, EB-2 and EB-3 green card pathways are available through PERM labor certification.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching jobs at University of Delaware?
Requirements vary by appointment level. Adjunct and lecturer roles typically require a master's degree in the relevant discipline. Tenure-track faculty positions expect a completed doctorate and a record of scholarly output. For international applicants, foreign credentials should be evaluated by a NACES-recognized service to confirm U.S. equivalency. Teaching experience, publications, and evidence of research activity strengthen applications at all levels.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at University of Delaware?
Applications are submitted through University of Delaware's official careers portal, with individual postings managed at the department level. A complete application typically includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, and reference contacts. You can also browse and filter Teaching roles at University of Delaware by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify positions that fit your work authorization situation before applying.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship through a Teaching offer?
If you're on F-1 OPT, cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date, meaning your offer needs to be finalized by March at the latest. Universities are cap-exempt employers, so University of Delaware can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery window, giving you more flexibility on start dates than a private-sector employer could offer. Confirm cap-exempt status with the international office early in your offer discussions.
