Job Roles at University of Maryland Global Campus Companies
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in University of Maryland Global Campus Visa Sponsorship USA
Target academic and professional staff roles
UMGC's sponsorship activity centers on roles that require specialized expertise, think instructional designers, academic advisors, IT professionals, and faculty. Focus your search on positions where a specific degree field is a firm requirement, not just preferred.
Understand UMGC's unique operating model
As a fully online university serving adult learners, UMGC hires differently than traditional campuses. Remote and hybrid roles are common, which broadens where sponsored candidates can realistically work and live while employed there.
Apply through official UMGC channels early
UMGC posts positions through its own careers portal and follows a structured hiring timeline tied to the academic calendar. Applying early in a hiring cycle improves your chances of clearing HR review before H-1B filing deadlines become a constraint.
Emphasize your degree field's direct relevance
H-1B sponsorship at universities depends heavily on specialty occupation status. Make sure your application clearly connects your degree discipline to the specific role, a mismatch here is the most common reason sponsorship requests get complicated at the petition stage.
Research UMGC's open roles before reaching out
Before contacting HR about sponsorship, identify two or three roles that genuinely fit your background. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find UMGC listings where sponsorship is a realistic outcome.
Factor in the H-1B lottery if you're not already in status
If you're not currently in H-1B status, UMGC would need to enter you in the annual lottery. Cap-exempt institutions can sometimes bypass this, confirm with UMGC HR whether your target role qualifies for cap-exempt filing under university rules.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Maryland Global Campus sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, University of Maryland Global Campus sponsors H-1B visas. As a public university, UMGC has an established process for sponsoring international employees in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most common in professional and academic staff positions where a specific degree field is a firm job requirement. Volume is modest compared to large tech employers, so each sponsorship decision carries meaningful weight internally.
What types of roles at University of Maryland Global Campus are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at UMGC tends to align with roles requiring specialized academic or technical expertise, instructional designers, curriculum developers, IT and cybersecurity professionals, and certain administrative roles tied to accreditation or student services. Faculty positions may also qualify depending on the department. Roles where any bachelor's degree satisfies the requirement are less likely to clear the specialty occupation threshold needed for H-1B approval.
How do I find open sponsored jobs at University of Maryland Global Campus?
Start by browsing UMGC's careers page directly, where all open positions are listed. For a faster way to identify roles at verified sponsoring employers, Migrate Mate lets you filter by real sponsorship history so you can prioritize applications where sponsorship is a documented outcome rather than a guess. Combining both approaches gives you the most complete picture of available opportunities.
How do I know if a specific UMGC role qualifies for H-1B sponsorship?
The key test is whether the job requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, not just any degree. Review the job posting carefully and look for degree requirements stated as mandatory, not preferred. If the role is ambiguous, ask UMGC's HR team directly during the interview process. An immigration attorney can also assess whether the position meets USCIS specialty occupation standards before you invest time in the application.
What is the typical application and sponsorship timeline at University of Maryland Global Campus?
UMGC follows a standard university hiring cycle, often tied to the academic calendar. After receiving an offer, the H-1B petition preparation typically takes several weeks before USCIS filing. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, filing must happen by April 1 for an October 1 start date. Cap-exempt candidates, those already holding H-1B status or working at a qualifying institution, face fewer timing constraints. Build in several months of runway when planning your transition.
