Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Professor Jobs at University of South Carolina Jobs
Align your credentials to USC's tenure requirements
USC evaluates Professor candidates against tenure-track criteria, so your CV should clearly document peer-reviewed publications, grant activity, and teaching experience in your discipline before you apply. A weak research record is the most common reason offers stall.
Target departments with active doctoral programs
Departments running funded PhD programs at USC hire more regularly and have stronger incentives to sponsor international faculty. Identifying these units through USC's graduate school directory focuses your outreach on the roles most likely to lead to sponsorship.
Understand PERM's role in faculty Green Card cases
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, USC's international services office initiates PERM labor certification through DOL. Faculty roles sometimes qualify for a special handling recruitment exception, which shortens the process. Ask the department administrator whether your position qualifies early.
Browse open Professor roles using Migrate Mate
Searching for faculty positions that come with confirmed sponsorship history saves significant time. Use Migrate Mate to filter Professor openings at USC by visa type so you're applying only to roles where sponsorship is an active part of the hiring process.
Coordinate your H-1B cap timing with USC's filing window
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS only accepts petitions once per year with an October 1 start date. Time your application cycle so a USC offer letter arrives before the April filing window, or ask whether a cap-exempt J-1 can bridge the gap.

Find Professor at University of South Carolina JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of South Carolina sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes, University of South Carolina sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles. As a university, USC qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning petitions can be filed at any time of year rather than only during the annual April lottery window. This gives international faculty candidates significantly more flexibility when negotiating start dates and transitions between academic appointments.
Which visa types does University of South Carolina commonly use for Professor roles?
USC uses J-1 Exchange Visitor status for visiting and postdoctoral faculty, H-1B for tenure-track and longer-term appointments, and TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying academic roles. For permanent hires, the university also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions through DOL's PERM labor certification process, including special handling for faculty recruitment in some cases.
What qualifications are expected for Professor positions at University of South Carolina?
Most Professor roles at USC require a terminal degree in the relevant discipline, typically a PhD. Tenure-track positions expect a demonstrated research agenda with peer-reviewed publications, a record of or potential for external grant funding, and prior teaching experience. Clinical or professional faculty tracks may substitute substantial industry or clinical credentials for the traditional research profile, depending on the department.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at University of South Carolina?
Applications for Professor positions at USC are submitted through the university's careers portal, where each listing specifies the required materials, typically a cover letter, CV, research statement, teaching philosophy, and references. You can also browse Professor openings at USC filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify which active roles have a confirmed sponsorship track record before you invest time in a full application.
How do I plan my timeline if USC is sponsoring my H-1B as a Professor?
Because USC is cap-exempt, H-1B petitions can be filed with USCIS year-round, which removes the April lottery deadline pressure most applicants face. Standard processing runs several months, and premium processing is available for faster adjudication. If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT or J-1 status, coordinate closely with USC's international services office to ensure no gap in authorized employment occurs between your current status and H-1B approval.
