Credential your degree for specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility for Professor roles hinges on your degree aligning with the specific discipline you'll teach. If your doctorate is from a non-U.S. institution, get a formal credential evaluation from NACES-approved evaluators before applying.
Target departments with active faculty searches
University of the Pacific posts faculty openings by school, including Pharmacy, Engineering, and Education. Filtering by department helps you focus on units with open headcount, since sponsorship decisions are made at the hiring department level, not centrally.
Understand the PERM timeline for permanent residency
If you're pursuing an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, PERM labor certification through DOL can take a year or more. Professors often begin this process during their second or third year of employment, so factor that into your long-term planning from day one.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Professor roles
Faculty postings at University of the Pacific that include visa sponsorship aren't always easy to identify from the main careers page. Browse Migrate Mate to filter Professor roles by sponsorship type and find current openings that match your visa situation.
Prepare your petition documents before the offer
University HR teams file I-129 petitions with USCIS once an offer is accepted. Assembling your curriculum vitae, transcripts, publications list, and appointment letter in advance shortens the window between offer acceptance and petition submission.

Find Professor at University of the Pacific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of the Pacific sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes, University of the Pacific sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles. Faculty positions typically meet the specialty occupation standard because they require a doctorate or equivalent in a specific academic field. The university's HR office manages the USCIS petition process, and sponsorship is generally initiated after a formal offer is extended and accepted.
Which visa types are commonly used for Professor roles at University of the Pacific?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for Professors. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose field appears on the USMCA professional list. F-1 OPT and CPT are used by doctoral candidates in adjunct or visiting roles. For permanent residency, the EB-2 and EB-3 categories are the standard pathways, often initiated after a year or more of employment.
What qualifications are expected for Professor positions at University of the Pacific?
Most tenure-track and full Professor roles require a terminal degree in the relevant discipline, which is typically a Ph.D., J.D., M.D., or equivalent. Teaching experience, a research or publication record, and demonstrated expertise in your specialty area are standard expectations. Professional licensure may also be required for clinical or professional program faculty, particularly in the health sciences.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at University of the Pacific?
Applications for faculty roles at University of the Pacific are submitted through the university's careers portal, usually with a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and research agenda. You can also browse open Professor positions that offer visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying.
How do I plan my visa timeline when accepting a Professor offer?
If you're starting on H-1B, your employer must file the I-129 petition with USCIS at least several months before your intended start date, with cap-subject filings subject to the April 1 filing window and October 1 start dates. TN status can be obtained at the border or port of entry and moves faster. For any pathway, align your offer acceptance timing with HR early to avoid gaps in work authorization.
