Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for Teaching roles hinges on the degree field matching the courses you'll teach. A PhD in the subject area you're instructing strengthens your petition considerably. USCIS scrutinizes adjunct and lecturer titles more than tenure-track ones.
Target open positions by department fit
University of the Pacific posts Teaching vacancies across health sciences, engineering, education, and the liberal arts. Applying to departments where your terminal degree directly maps to the curriculum gives you the strongest case for specialty occupation classification.
Request a sponsorship conversation before accepting an offer
Many university HR teams distinguish between tenure-track and visiting roles when deciding whether to sponsor. Clarify during the offer stage whether the specific Teaching position qualifies for H-1B or EB-2 sponsorship, not after you've signed.
Use OPT or CPT to build your Pacific record first
If you're completing a U.S. degree, F-1 OPT lets you work in a Teaching or research assistant role at Pacific before H-1B sponsorship becomes necessary. Demonstrating teaching effectiveness on campus strengthens the employer's case for sponsoring your H-1B.
Browse Teaching roles at University of the Pacific on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employer sponsorship history, so you can see which Teaching openings at Pacific are realistic targets for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship without manually researching each posting.
Understand PERM timing if pursuing permanent residency
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, the DOL PERM process requires Pacific to document a competitive recruitment effort. Faculty searches already follow structured hiring procedures, which can align well with PERM requirements, but the process still adds 12 to 24 months to your timeline.

Find Teaching at University of the Pacific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of the Pacific sponsor H-1B visas for Teachers?
Yes, University of the Pacific sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Teaching roles, particularly tenure-track and full-time faculty positions where the role requires a specialized degree in a specific academic discipline. Adjunct or part-time Teaching roles may receive less consistent sponsorship support, so confirming the position's eligibility directly with the university's HR or international office during the hiring process is advisable.
How do I apply for Teaching jobs at University of the Pacific?
Teaching positions at University of the Pacific are posted through the university's careers portal, organized by college or school. You can also browse open Teaching roles filtered by sponsorship history on Migrate Mate to identify which listings align with your visa situation before applying. Faculty applications typically require a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, and writing samples or evidence of scholarly work.
Which visa types are commonly used for Teaching roles at University of the Pacific?
The most common visa pathways for Teaching roles at University of the Pacific are the H-1B for specialty occupation faculty, F-1 OPT or CPT for students transitioning into Teaching assistant or instructor roles, and TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying academic disciplines. Longer-term faculty may pursue permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship once they've established a record at the institution.
What qualifications are expected for Teaching positions at University of the Pacific?
Expectations vary by department and role level. Tenure-track faculty positions almost always require a terminal degree, typically a PhD or equivalent doctoral credential in the relevant field. Lecturer and instructor roles may accept a master's degree combined with significant professional or teaching experience. For visa sponsorship purposes, the degree field must correspond directly to the subject matter being taught to satisfy H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
How do I time my H-1B application if I'm currently on F-1 OPT at University of the Pacific?
If you're working at University of the Pacific under F-1 OPT and your employer wants to retain you in a Teaching role, the H-1B petition must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're in a STEM field, a 24-month STEM OPT extension can bridge the gap. Coordinate closely with Pacific's international student office to ensure your I-20 and OPT authorization remain current throughout the transition.
