Frame your insurance credentials for U.S. standards
If you hold professional designations like the CPCU or CIC, confirm they're recognized in the U.S. market and feature them prominently in your application. USI evaluates VP candidates on demonstrated revenue generation and client portfolio depth, not just credentials.
Target USI's commercial lines growth markets
USI actively expands its specialty and middle-market commercial insurance practices. Researching which regional offices are hiring VP Business Development roles tells you where sponsorship decisions are actually being made, since approvals often sit with regional leadership, not central HR.
Clarify your visa category before the first interview
USI sponsors E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT among other categories. Knowing which applies to you before outreach lets you answer sponsorship questions confidently and signals to the hiring team that the process won't require extensive education on their end.
Align your offer timeline with LCA filing requirements
For E-3 and H-1B roles, USI's HR team must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your visa appointment. Build at least three to four weeks of LCA processing time into your start date negotiation so the offer doesn't stall at the last step.
Use Migrate Mate to filter VP Business Development openings by sponsorship
VP roles at insurance brokerages often aren't flagged as sponsorship-eligible in general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to surface USI Insurance Services positions that are open to visa holders, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is actually on the table.
Document your revenue track record in concrete terms
USI VP Business Development hires are expected to own and grow a client book. Prepare a one-page revenue summary showing new business written, retention rates, and deal sizes from prior roles. This documentation also supports the specialty occupation case if USCIS scrutinizes your petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does USI Insurance Services sponsor H-1B visas for VP Business Developments?
USI Insurance Services has sponsored work visas for VP Business Development roles, but H-1B visa is not among the primary visa types in their recent sponsorship activity. Their sponsorship history for this role leans toward categories like E-3 visa, TN visa, and F-1 OPT. If H-1B visa is your only pathway, confirm with the hiring team early, since H-1B requires USCIS lottery selection and a October 1 start date, which may not fit a VP-level offer timeline.
Which visa types are commonly used for VP Business Development roles at USI Insurance Services?
USI Insurance Services has sponsored VP Business Development candidates under E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visa categories. E-3 and TN are the most straightforward for eligible nationals because they don't involve a lottery and can be processed quickly relative to H-1B. If you hold Australian citizenship or Canadian nationality, these are the most practical paths for a senior commercial insurance role.
What qualifications and experience does USI Insurance Services expect for VP Business Development roles?
VP Business Development candidates at USI are typically expected to bring an established book of business in commercial insurance, experience selling to middle-market or large enterprise clients, and a relevant bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field. The specialty occupation standard under most work visas requires that the role demands at least a bachelor's degree, which is well-supported by the financial and analytical complexity of insurance brokerage at the VP level.
How do I apply for VP Business Development jobs at USI Insurance Services?
You can search for open VP Business Development positions directly on USI's careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which filters insurance industry roles by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, flag your visa status in your cover note or recruiter message so the team can route your application to a hiring manager with sponsorship authority. VP roles at USI are often filled through regional pipelines, so reaching out to the relevant regional managing director alongside your formal application can accelerate the process.
How do I time my job search to account for visa processing at USI Insurance Services?
For E-3 and TN, processing can move quickly, sometimes within a few weeks of an approved offer if you're applying at a U.S. consulate abroad. F-1 OPT requires that you have remaining authorized work time when you start, so confirm your OPT end date before accepting an offer. For any category requiring a DOL Labor Condition Application, account for at least three to four weeks before your visa appointment or USCIS filing. Starting your job search three to six months before your current authorization expires gives you the most flexibility.
