INTRODUCTION
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Public Safety, the Clery Compliance Specialist serves as the campus official responsible for compliance with the regulatory requirements as set forth by the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy, Campus Crime Statistics Act, and Stop Campus Hazing Act. Working in collaboration with the campus Security Department and other campus offices, the Clery Compliance Specialist serves as the expert resource for all laws and regulations as outlined in the Federal Clery Act, as well as laws and regulations pertaining to the processing, retention, release, and disposition of Security and Clery records.

Key Responsibilities
Clery Act Compliance, Reporting, and Data Management:
- Develops and implements the institution’s comprehensive program for compliance with the Clery Act and related laws, regulations, and programs.
- Gathers, analyzes, interprets, and communicates crime data. Ensures accuracy of institutional data and prepares, publishes, and distributes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.
- Collaborates with local police, university security, and other university departments and offices to create and maintain crime and fire incident reports as required under the Clery Act.
- Collaborates with university departments to ensure compliance with the emergency notification and timely warning requirements of the Clery Act.
- Tracks short stayaway and repeated use trips to ensure that non-campus property is properly identified and that crime statistics are collected from appropriate agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Training, Policy Development, and Institutional Coordination:
- Identifies and trains institutional “Campus Security Authorities” and key institutional stakeholders on Clery reporting requirements.
- Creates, implements, and coordinates university policies, procedures, and programs relating to compliance with the Clery Act.
- Collaborates with university departments to identify university owned and controlled property and determine the University’s geography for Clery reporting for WesternU’s Pomona, California and Lebanon, Oregon campuses.
- Ensures accuracy of Clery geography maps.
- Ensures that there is a reporting process / form for submitting Campus Security Authority reports.
- Ensures Daily Crime Log is compliant with requirements of the Clery Act for both CA and OR.

- Schedules monthly Clery Compliance Committee Meetings.
- Prepares agenda for Clery Compliance Committee Meetings.
- Ensures member of the Clery Compliance Committee is up to date and representative of the Clery stakeholders.

- Stays up-to-date on pending and final changes to the Clery Act and other laws or regulations affecting Clery Act provisions and provides updates to the Clery Compliance Committee.
Key Responsibilities
Institutional Partnerships, Coordination, and Program Integration:
- Serves as a key institutional partner for Clery Act compliance, working closely with the Office of Title IX & Equal Opportunity (OTIXEO), Office of Student Conduct, Public Safety, Student Affairs, Human Resources, Legal Affairs, and other campus offices to ensure coordinated reporting, information sharing, and regulatory alignment.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to support Clery-related processes, including crime classification, timely warnings, emergency notifications, case coordination, and compliance documentation.
- Facilitates cross-departmental coordination to ensure Clery requirements are consistently integrated with related compliance functions, including Title IX, threat assessment, and CARE/CARES activities, while maintaining appropriate role clarity and regulatory boundaries.
- Participates in Clery-related meetings, audits, reviews, trainings, and special projects to support continuous improvement of the University’s campus safety and compliance programs.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned that support Clery Act compliance, campus safety reporting, and associated regulatory obligations.
- Coordinates annual required Clery Act Exercise (Drill) with internal partners and outside public safety departments.
