INTRODUCTION
Under the general direction of the Department Chair of Computer Science, the Hood College Department of Computer Science & Information Technology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Jan. 2027 or Aug. 2027.
The primary responsibilities include teaching (21 credits annually) and advising undergraduate and graduate students, serving on committees within the department and college, reviewing and developing curriculum in computing and information technology, and conducting scholarly research.
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Teaching 60%
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology in areas including, but not limited to, computer architecture, computer organization and design, and digital logic. Additional teaching experience in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, or cybersecurity is desirable.
- Utilize the College’s learning management system as an instructional platform for all classes.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Actively engage in the development and assessment of student learning to ensure that program goals and, where appropriate, core curriculum goals are being achieved.
- Participate in ongoing professional development relevant to teaching.
- Plan course syllabus and assignments to meet Hood College and departmental curriculum requirements, utilizing various teaching techniques.
- Evaluate students' learning styles and individual characteristics to tailor instruction and promote class engagement.
- Provide learning opportunities in and out of the classroom to achieve course objectives.
- Attentiveness to and compliance with ABET standards required for accreditation.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Research/Scholarship 30%
- Conduct field-specific research in computing.
- Present research findings at academic or professional conferences.
- Engage students (undergraduate and/or graduate) in ongoing scholarship efforts.
- As appropriate, partner with the Grants Office and/or other partners to pursue external funding opportunities consistent with disciplinary areas of interest and/or strategic goals.
Service 10%
- Engage in active service within the department and College.
- Support and participate in college committees and/or professional organizations.
- Support college initiatives to recruit and retain talented students.
- Serve as an active member of the department and Hood College community.

Education and/or Experience
Earned doctorate in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or closely related field by the time of appointment required. Applications that do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
Some college-level teaching experience preferred and equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional experience in industry or government is desirable.
Technology Skills
Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use fingers, hands, reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is required to sit. The employee may occasionally be required to stand and lift and move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision. The work environment described here is representative of what an employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level is usually moderate, and could include interaction with other employees, students, the public, telephones, and other office equipment.
COMPENSATION
The salary for this position ranges from $72,000 to $80,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation for work completed beyond the minimum contracted teaching load may be provided. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
