Construction Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction in Tennessee?
The Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors oversees licensing for contractors in the state, and most workers in the trades enter through an employer-sponsored apprenticeship or a vocational program at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Apprenticeships combine paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction and typically last several years depending on the trade. Completing a registered apprenticeship and passing any required trade exams is the most direct path to full journey-level status in Tennessee.
Which companies hire constructions in Tennessee?
Companies currently hiring constructions in Tennessee include Smith Seckman Reid, ENFRA, and ECS Limited, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's mix of commercial development in Nashville and industrial projects along the I-40 and I-24 corridors keeps a broad range of general contractors and specialty subcontractors actively recruiting.
Which Tennessee cities have the most construction jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville consistently post the highest volume of construction openings in Tennessee. Nashville drives the largest share of listings because of its sustained commercial real estate boom and major public infrastructure projects, while Memphis benefits from industrial and logistics construction tied to its distribution sector, and Knoxville sees steady demand from university expansion and regional healthcare facility development.
Are there remote construction jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. About 11% of construction openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the fundamentally hands-on, site-based nature of most construction work. The roles most likely to carry a remote or hybrid arrangement are estimating, project management, scheduling, and preconstruction planning positions where the core work is document-based rather than field-based.
How can I get hired as a construction in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a registered apprenticeship program through a Tennessee union hall or a large general contractor that runs its own training pipeline. Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology offer short-term credentials in carpentry, electrical, and HVAC that employers recognize when hiring entry-level laborers and helpers. Starting as a general laborer or site helper with companies building residential subdivisions in the Nashville suburbs or commercial projects in Knoxville gives you documented hours that lead to journey-level work.
Where can I find and apply to construction jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to construction jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your trade, experience level, and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
